Procedures of debeaking:-
1. Hold the chick in one hand with the thumb behind the head.
2. Hold the head firmly in position resting on the thumb.
3. Cut the beak tip and the lateral edges at least 2mm from the nostrils.
NB:
After debeaking increase the level of feeds in the feeders and the level of water in the drinkers to ease drinking and eating.

Tips to debeaking:
- Ensure the birds are healthy and have not been vaccinated recently.
- Add vitamin K to the drinking water to avoid over bleeding after debeaking
- Ensure the temperature of the trimming blade is high enough to prevent over bleeding and burning the birds.

Chemicals measures
Rat poison like quick phos, but endeavor not to place the tablets in the poultry houses or where the birds can easily access the tablets , these are harmful to the birds causing death. Wear rubber gloves when handling bait, bait stations, traps or dead rodents to prevent human scent transfer, accidental poisoning or disease transmission. Rat bait is also another rat poison that may be helpful.
Biological measures
Predators, such as cats may limit low-level rat populations. Cats also scare the rats off the farms as well as hunt for them. This will gradually eliminate the rats on the farm hence reducing the rat population on the farm.
NB:
Please not that all these measure are to be used hand in hand for effectiveness. You will need to use the traps, poison and cats at the same times to properly eliminate the rats and prevent their return on the farm

Physical measures
Snap Traps, for small populations, rat traps are very useful for eliminating rodents. Rats prefer fresh fish or meat, peanut butter or seeds. Try several baits to find out which your rodents prefer. Rats are distrustful of anything new in their environment, so leave baited non-set traps out for 4-5 days to allow them to get used to the traps. Ensure that previous baits have been taken before actually setting the traps. Locate traps close to walls, behind objects, in dark corners, where you see droppings or gnaw marks. Set the trap at right angles to the wall with the trigger and bait closest to the wall.
Glue Boards, these are very effective however will not work well if there is too much dust. Check glue boards and traps daily and remove and dispose of dead mice and rats. Abundant food supplies make baited traps less effective. Eliminate as many sources of food as possible before starting a program. For barns and poultry houses with moderate infestations, set 50-100 traps. The trapping program should be short and decisive to prevent trap shyness
