Hi friends!!!!! Its been a while! What questions would you like us to answer concerning hydroponic fodder?

Rodents are a big menace in hydroponic fodder systems. Ensure your system is free of rodents by attaching cones around the legs holding your system. This prevents them from being able to climb upwards :-)

We keep getting this question, 'Do you need to use Hydroponic nutrients to grow Hydroponic Fodder?'. Our answer, No you don't need nutrients to grow Hydroponic fodder. The answer lies in understanding what Hydroponic Fodder is. We start production of hydroponic fodder using grains or seeds in the form of cereals, legumes. These include beans, corn/maize, cowpeas, sunflower seeds, oats, barley, wheat, rye grass, to name a few. These seeds are allowed to germinate under soil less conditions. Germination itself is a natural process and occurs in nature only when the conditions are right, meaning right amount of humidity, moisture, light/darkness, temperature, oxygen. When seeds are soaked, they imbibe water, and this process in itself allows for the seed coat to break, which also accelerates the release of enzymes stored in the seed which begin converting the stored nutrients in a complex form into much simpler structures. So from carbohydrates to simple sugars, from proteins to amino acids, and fats to fatty acids. These simple nutrients allow the seed to develop up to the point where photosynthesis kicks in and the leaves can now use the sun's energy to convert carbon dioxide and water into glucose or food which is used for growth and other plant functions. This process occurs during the first 7 days of hydroponic fodder production, when the simple nutrients are at their highest peak beyond which would be almost unavailable as photosynthesis would be in full swing. So all you need is to give the seeds or sprouts water. Nohydroponic nutrients required unless you wanted to grow the seeds into a full sized plant beyond 7 days :-)

The number of seeds you place on your tray will determine how quickly or slowly your hydroponic fodder will take to grow.

To prevent the growth of water moulds, ensure your trays slant at more than 1 inch in height with drainage holes on the lower side.

Root health is an important aspect in hydroponic fodder growing. Check your roots, if too moist or warm, expect moulds to grow(slime moulds). Remedy: Reduce planting density.

20/08/2017

Beneficial organisms can be used to control moulds in hydroponic fodder. What does that mean? It means you can grow your own good bacteria to fight the bad bacteria and moulds. How? Using plant juice.

20/08/2017

Tap water is great for growing hydroponic fodder. Why? It has chlorine which helps to reduce growth of moulds. If you have access to rainwater add a few chlorine tablets.

Reduce on the amount of time it takes to grow your hydroponic fodder by using pre-germination techniques. No chemicals required, just a paper bag(black).
