The history of economic and social development is characterized by a constant search for new paradigms and simplified ways of understanding how to make the economy and society work. This is as ridden by waves of successive paradigms from the State-run and inward-looking development approach to trade liberalization of the Washington Consensus.

Neoliberalism is currently the dominant political and economic ideology in the developed and developing countries. However, evidence seems to suggest that these neoliberalist policies have perpetrated inequality, crippled trade unions and entrenched the power of the political and economic elite among other concerns. As with other paradigms, the enthusiasm for the Washington Consensus has waned, and it is now in search of a new paradigm that offers better economic results, more stability, and greater equity.

These dialogues intend to expose concepts from all ends of the ideological spectrum i.e the left, Centre-left, the Right & Centre-right purposefully to appreciate more critically what values each of these concepts bring and which ones are most applicable in addressing contemporary challenges.

The topic for this session will be; *Trajectory of Uganda’s growth and development prospects through neo-liberals vs socialists’ lenses*
