The bar is closed for Yasin Ssekitoleko, aka Machete.
Over 4 years on remand. A father of two. A butcher from Kawempe. His "crime"? Wearing his party uniform.
The evidence of a closed bar:
· Refused to plead guilty while 19 others were pressured into confessing and pardoned, he held his ground.
· Bail denied repeatedly once by High Court citing "lack of jurisdiction" despite the Supreme Court ruling civilians can't be tried militarily.
· Became so desperate he went on a 17-day hunger strike. Uganda Medical Association found him unable to stand, wheelchair-bound, severely dehydrated. They demanded his "immediate medical release".
He is one of nine National Unity Platform supporters who refused to accept charges, now languishing in Kitalya and Luzira prisons alongside comrades like Male-kiwanuka Mabirizi, Olivia Lutaaya, and Eddie Mutwe.
Over 4 years. No trial. For wearing a party shirt.
When a man starves himself to death for a hearing, the bar is closed.
