The five-day residential technical training held at Kotido Technical Institute under the Climate-Resilient WASH Programme has successfully come to a close.

Artisans from Kotido, Abim, Karenga, and Kaabong have been equipped with practical skills in the installation, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of solar-powered water pumping systems.

Throughout the training, participants engaged in hands-on sessions covering system setup, preventive maintenance, fault diagnosis, and basic repair techniques, key competencies for ensuring reliable and long-lasting water systems.

In addition to technical skills, the training incorporated business management sessions, empowering artisans with knowledge on service delivery, entrepreneurship, and sustainability of their work within their communities.

The programme concluded with the awarding of certificates to all participants, recognizing their commitment and newly acquired skills.

These artisans are now better prepared to support climate-resilient WASH services and ensure consistent access to safe water in schools and health centres across the Karamoja sub-region.

Implemented by the Uganda Solar Energy Association (USEA) in partnership with UNICEF Uganda and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), this initiative continues to build local capacity and strengthen sustainable water solutions in vulnerable communities.

Day 3: Practical Skills in Solar Pump Installation and Maintenance

On Day 3 of the ongoing technical training at Kotido Technical Institute, participants shifted their focus to the installation and maintenance of solar-powered water pumping systems under the Climate-Resilient WASH Programme.

Artisans from Kotido, Abim, Karenga, and Kaabong gained hands-on experience in installing solar pumps, assembling system components, and ensuring proper setup for optimal performance.

The sessions emphasized correct installation techniques to improve efficiency and extend the lifespan of the systems.

The training also highlighted the importance of preventive maintenance. Participants learned how to conduct routine inspections, identify potential faults early, and carry out basic servicing.

Through practical troubleshooting exercises, they strengthened their ability to diagnose and resolve common system issues.

These skills are essential for sustaining reliable water supply systems in schools and health centres across the Karamoja sub-region, while also building local capacity to support climate-resilient WASH services.

The training is supported by UNICEF Uganda and Korea International Cooperation agency, and implemented by the Uganda Solar Energy Association.

Ongoing: Strengthening Skills for Sustainable Water Solutions in Karamoja

From 20th to 24th April 2026, the Uganda Solar Energy Association (USEA), in partnership with UNICEF Uganda and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), is conducting a five-day residential technical training at Kotido Technical Institute under the Climate-Resilient WASH Programme.

This second cohort brings together artisans from Kotido, Abim, Karenga, and Kaabong, equipping them with essential skills in the installation, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of solar-powered water systems.

Participants engage in both theoretical sessions and hands-on practical demonstrations, covering system components, preventive maintenance, fault diagnosis, and basic repair techniques.

By the end of the training, they strengthen their capacity to support the sustainability of solar-powered water facilities in schools and health centres across the Karamoja sub-region.

The training contributes to improved access to safe water, enhances local technical capacity for timely maintenance and repairs, and supports climate-resilient WASH services in vulnerable communities

The RA-PURE Mini Expo 2026 has successfully concluded today in Mbarara City after three days of vibrant engagement, innovation, and collaboration around sustainable agriculture and renewable energy solutions.

Held at Amazon Parking Space from 26th–28th March 2026, the Regenerative Agriculture–Productive Use Renewable Energy (RA-PURE) Mini Expo brought together farmers, clean energy innovators, development partners, and local stakeholders to explore how renewable energy can transform agriculture and strengthen rural livelihoods.

Throughout the expo, participants experienced live demonstrations of solar-powered technologies in agriculture, gaining practical insights into affordable and sustainable energy solutions that can enhance productivity across farming systems.

The event also created strong opportunities for networking, consumer awareness, and one-on-one matchmaking sessions. These engagements connected a diverse group of stakeholders including farmer group representatives, Youth Agroecology Club representatives, solar energy companies, agroecological entrepreneurs with value-added products and agricultural input dealers.

These interactions helped foster new partnerships and highlighted potential areas of collaboration among technology suppliers, local governments (LGs), financial institutions (FIs) and other partners to scale access to renewable energy technologies within agricultural value chains.

We extend our sincere gratitude to the Power for Food Partnership, coordinated by SNV, for supporting this initiative. We also acknowledge the collaboration with Pelum Uganda, whose partnership enhanced our focus on agroecology, clean energy adoption, and inclusive agricultural development.
