Today we bring to you the profile of one of our clients, SNV (Netherlands Development Organisation):
SNV is a not-for-profit international development organisation founded in 1965. Today SNV has built a long-term, local presence in 39 countries across Asia, Africa and Latin America. SNV supports people to access and develop the capabilities, services and opportunities required to live healthy, productive and fulfilling lives, while sustainably using the natural resources they depend on.
SNV helps to alleviate poverty by increasing people’s income and employment opportunities in specific productive sectors, as well as improving their access to basic services including water, sanitation and hygiene, and renewable energy.
In 2013 SNV Uganda contributed to improved income, food security, employment and use of basic services for 1.1 million people.
Matlin Consultancy Limited is contracted by SNV to work on their Oilseed project - OSSUP, The Uganda Oilseed Subsector Platform’. The Uganda Oilseed Subsector Platform (OSSUP) has a mandate to address systemic issues affecting the development of the oilseed sub-sector in Uganda. OSSUP is a member driven network of private, public and civil organisations, individuals and institution committed to work together to:
1. Catalyse innovative capacity with the aim to enhance the competitive position of locally sourced sunfower and processed edible oils and;
2. Introduce coordination mechanisms that create stable conditions for pro-poor development in the oilseed subsector in Uganda.

SNV Uganda is working with suppliers and distributors to promote last mile access to renewable energy solutions. 200 solar kits and 2,000 cookstoves have been sold so far and still counting!
