ancial products and services to the doorstep of those living at the Bottom of the Pyramid (BoP) through a sustainable social enterprise model. In the past two decades, a number of life-saving technologies and products that address many of the development challenges faced by the BoP (clean energy, sanitation, clean water,) have come onto the market. These products include innovations such as solar lamps and inexpensive solar home systems for families living off the electric grid, clean and efficient cook stoves or basic household sanitation solutions like simple water purification systems. These and other “social products” exist in the market and could improve peoples’ health, well-being, productivity and overall quality of life, if made accessible at affordable terms.
