Five documents that show you are investment ready

1. Business records
“These include operational and financial records eg number of users/customers and financial statements. Early-stage businesses need to maintain management accounts that show their profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements. It is advisable to conduct your first audit after the first 12-18 months of operations and annually thereafter. You can engage a tier-three audit firm. We also need to know your debtors and creditors and the quantum."

2. Information Memorandum
" This is a more detailed pitch deck that will include an executive summary, overview of the company, employee profile, risks etc."

3. Budget or Financial model
" We need to factor in your projections. Your profit and loss statements, balance sheet, cashflow statement, and liquidity and profitability ratios need to come out clearly. The importance of ratios is that they get you to think about the business and compare yourself against other peers in the industry. If you find your ratios deviate too much from industry averages, then you need to re-evaluate some aspects of the business."

4. Formation documents
"Have you been registered? We would need to see certificates of registration, shareholder agreements, loan agreements, pin certificate, permits and licenses etc."

5. Contracts
" When you claim to have certain contracts and partnerships, we need to see evidence of that. We need to see the signed contracts and MOUs to confirm the claims you are making are true."
