Home gym becomes a death sentence
🇺🇬 ❤️❤️

For years on site, we’ve been ordering ¾ aggregate because that’s what everyone uses, without ever asking why.
The answer is in Eurocode 2 (EN 1992-1-1, Clause 8.2 under placing and compaction of concrete.
The code limits the maximum aggregate size to Âľ of the minimum clear spacing between reinforcement bars or Âľ of the nominal concrete cover.
If the stones are bigger than the space meant for concrete to flow, they block, cause honeycombing, and weaken bond and durability.
So that familiar “¾” at the quarry isn’t a market rule, it’s geometry driven by reinforcement detailing and cover requirements.

This may look funny but it’s a common and dangerous practice.
Residential upper floors (Eurocode Category A) are designed for about 2.0 kN/m², not gym use.
Home gyms can impose 4 to 5 kN/m² plus dynamic impact from treadmills and weights.
A floor designed for a sofa can fail under exercise loads.
If it wasn’t designed for it, keep the gym on the ground floor.

No drawings, no concrete or reinforcement records.
So before building up, we verified the structure’s capacity and load path.

In existing buildings, rebound hammer and rebar scanner tests provide non-destructive insight into concrete strength and reinforcement details critical for verifying structural capacity under expected loading.

Not all balconies are the same.
Cantilevered, stacked, French, or terrace. Each one shapes the facade and the way a home lives.

25 mm & 50 mm — the magic numbers in construction. From minimum concrete cover protecting reinforcement (EC2, Cl. 4.4), to spacing and tolerances ensuring durability & performance (EC2, Cl. 8.2), these small dimensions define strength, safety, and precision on site.
