Here’s a fun fact: Over 60% of project teams say that evaluation findings directly change how they design their next program.

That’s the beauty of Monitoring & Evaluation: it’s not just about proving success, but about improving how we achieve it. Whether you are a health researcher, a market analyst, or an M&E officer, the ability to transform raw numbers into actionable stories is what makes a real impact.

At the heart of this transformation is SPSS, one of the most powerful suites for data analysis and modeling. It’s the industry standard for professionals who need to process large amounts of quantitative data quickly and accurately.

If you're looking to retool your skills and remain competitive, our 2026 Professional Training Programme is designed for you.

From mastering complex data manipulation in Excel to performing advanced statistical tests in SPSS, we bridge the gap between "having data" and "understanding data."

Recently, our team had the privilege of conducting an endline study for the Healthy Village Project implemented by Wells of Life.

Through a mix of field conversations and data analysis, we assessed progress against the project’s original goals, looking at what has changed, what worked well, and where there is room to grow. We also explored whether the systems put in place are strong enough to sustain results beyond the project period, while ensuring that the voices of women, men, girls, and boys were meaningfully reflected in the findings.

For more than a decade, Wells of Life has expanded access to safe and clean drinking water across rural Uganda, reaching over one million people. Building on this foundation, the Healthy Village Project was introduced to go beyond water access - strengthening hygiene practices, improving health outcomes, and working closely with district local governments in Kabale and Rubanda to drive lasting community change.

This endline study allowed us to capture lessons learned, highlight success factors, and provide practical recommendations to guide future programming. Most importantly, it helps ensure that the impact achieved continues to improve lives long after project completion.

We are proud to support initiatives that advance health, dignity, and sustainable development in communities across Uganda.

Recently, our team supported and engaged in a productive assignment as we continue strengthening our collaboration with Right To Play under the SHARE Project, funded by Global Affairs Canada.

Our engagement centered on refining and operationalizing a structured monthly monitoring framework to support simple, mobile-based data collection and mentoring of Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs) over a four-month cycle.

The framework enables field teams to systematically track financial performance, group functionality, and overall progress toward project outcomes.

Beyond tracking performance, the approach promotes accountability and continuous improvement by generating clear, actionable follow-up points for mentoring in subsequent months.

This strengthens timely decision-making, enhances group quality, and contributes to sustained economic resilience among adolescent-focused savings groups.

We appreciate the continued partnership and the commitment of all stakeholders working to drive sustainable, evidence-driven impact.

Today, the year begins to feel real.

The holiday pause is officially behind us, the pace is returning, and at Maarifa Consult, we are stepping into 2026 with the momentum of the work that closed our last chapter.

In the final days of the year, we supported Action Against Hunger (ACF) through a comprehensive, multi-sectoral needs and risk assessment. The focus was clear: generating rigorous, needs-based evidence to guide priorities, targeting, and response design in refugee-hosting and host community contexts.

The assessment covered Isingiro (Nakivale), Kiryandongo, Lamwo (Palabek), and Moyo (Palorinya), examining sectoral needs, vulnerabilities, risks, capacities, and coping mechanisms, ensuring programme choices are grounded in current humanitarian realities and aligned with strict analytical requirements.

This is the kind of work that defines how we operate:
clear analysis, strong methodology, and evidence that directly shapes strategic decisions.

As the year gathers momentum, we’re continuing with the same focus, supporting partners to design responses that are relevant, credible, and competitive in increasingly demanding funding environments.

More to come.

Wishing you a smooth transition back to the desk and a week that fuels your momentum.

As the year draws to a close, it’s a timely moment to pause and reflect on what sustained, community-centred interventions can achieve in complex and fragile contexts.

Over the past week, we have been engaged in the endline evaluation of the Reconstruction
Assistance, Sustainable Income Generation, and Peace-building for Strengthened Resilience project in Pochalla County, South Sudan, focusing on relevance, effectiveness, impact, sustainability, and overall performance against intended objectives.

Implemented by Tearfund South Sudan in partnership with Coalition for Humanity (CH) and local stakeholders, and funded by BMZ, the project brought together livelihoods and income generation, infrastructure rehabilitation, peacebuilding, capacity strengthening, and disaster risk management.

The evaluation process created space to examine how these components interacted to support household recovery, strengthen social cohesion, and build resilience among conflict-affected communities and returnees.

The process was also a space for honest reflection, grounding learning in evidence, amplifying community voices, and supporting more thoughtful decisions about what to adapt, strengthen, or do differently next time.

We were recently engaged in the Labour Market Study (LMS) under UNESCO’s “Support to TVET for Value Chain Development” project, funded by the African Development Bank (AfDB). The study is being undertaken as part of the Government of South Sudan’s strategic interventions aimed at creating a more diversified and resilient economy that can sustainably reduce fragility and foster inclusive development. As part of this ongoing engagement, our team recently completed the data collection phase of the LMS a nationwide assessment spanning all 10 states and 2 administrative areas of South Sudan, designed to generate reliable and up-to-date evidence to address the persistent mismatch between the skills produced by training institutions and the demands of the labour market, a gap underscored by earlier, limited-scope studies such as UNESCO’s 2018 TVET Rapid Assessment.

Throughout the fieldwork, we engaged with government ministries, institutions, and local stakeholders to collect valuable insights into labour market dynamics and the challenges contributing to youth unemployment, low workforce productivity, reliance on foreign skilled labour, and the economic disenfranchisement of local populations.

We extend our sincere appreciation to the Government of South Sudan particularly the Ministry of Youth and Sports; Ministry of Labour, Public Service and Human Resource Development; Ministry of General Education and Instruction; Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security; Ministry of Trade and Industry; Ministry of Gender, Child and Social Welfare; and the South Sudan National Bureau of Standards for their collaboration and continued commitment to building an inclusive, gender-sensitive, and labour-responsive TVET system.

The findings of this assessment will directly feed into broader efforts to ensure that the country’s TVET system is evidence-based, gender sensitive, inclusive, and aligned with labour market needs.

At Maarifa Consult, we remain committed to supporting partners through rigorous research, evidence-based learning, and actionable insights that drive meaningful and sustainable impact.

It has been an insightful and productive two weeks for us at Maarifa Consult as we continue our collaboration with Right To Play through the SHARE project, funded by Global Affairs Canada.

Our team has been supporting the VSLA Training and Learning Initiative, a key component of the project’s work in Buyende and Adjumani districts. The initiative focuses on strengthening financial literacy and building the economic confidence of adolescent-focused VSLAs.

By working closely with mentors, community leaders, and project staff, we are helping equip young people with practical skills to manage savings, make informed financial decisions, and enhance their resilience.

We appreciate the ongoing partnership with Right To Play and commend the commitment of all teams involved. We look forward to sharing further insights and learnings as the engagement progresses.

✨ Mid-Week Update | Keeping the Momentum Strong

It’s been an energising week at Maarifa Consult as our team continues to support partners across multiple engagements.

From ongoing evaluations to field coordination, learning sessions, and planning meetings the past few days have been full, productive, and deeply meaningful.

Each engagement reminds us of why we do this work:
✔️ Strengthening systems
✔️ Generating evidence
✔️ Helping organisations make informed, impactful decisions

We’re grateful for the trust placed in us and excited about the insights emerging from this week’s activities. More updates coming as we wrap up each assignment.

Here’s to a productive Wednesday and to development work that moves from intention to impact.
