District Officer Arrested for Taking Money from New Workers
Mr. Nabuguuzi Isaac, a District Registration Officer at NIRA in Kyankwanzi, was taken to court because he asked for money by threatening people. The police and other agencies worked together to arrest him.
From June to July 2025, Mr. Nabuguuzi asked more than 50 new Registration Assistants to give him money. He said if they didn’t pay, they would lose their jobs. The new workers gave him between 300,000 and 500,000 Ugandan Shillings each, in cash or by mobile money, after getting their first salary. He told them the money was a “thank you” for helping them get the jobs.
Mr. Nabuguuzi will stay in custody until August 17, 2025.
