Understanding Growth Rate of a Pig
Pigs do not make very rapid progress in live weight during the first two months. During the third month's growth, the live weight of a pig rises rapidly and during the fifth, sixth and seventh months it will be seen that the pig gains 22kgs each month. Following the seventh month it takes two months, or 60 days, to add 22kgs and the next 22kgs is put on in the next 3 months. As maturity is approached it takes the pig 6 months' time to put on the last 22kgs in live weight, (an average of 3.5kgs per month).
This is on assumption that the pig reaches maturity at 18 months.
