Today entrepreneurs explored how to identify and approach problem solving in their businesses and what this means for business growth and profitability.

Tracking every shilling flowing in and out of daily operations to eliminate cost leakages has been the focus of today's financial acumen session.

On Day 1 of our WeWork - Green and Decent Jobs for Youth project bootcamp, Cohort 2 mapped out the money movements across their businesses.

For these entrepreneurs, understanding their true gross margins, operating expenses, and net profit line by line is one step in the right direction to building sustainable, investment-ready businesses.

Now they appreciate that mastering their financial statements isn't just about record-keeping but gaining the clarity needed to make strategic growth decisions, attract investment, and build resilient, planet-positive enterprises.

Week 2 is officially underway!

Today, we welcome our second cohort of ambitious entrepreneurs to the WeWork - Green and Decent Jobs for Youth project bootcamp!

Just like our first group last week, this new lot of high-potential entrepreneurs from Kampala Metropolitan, Busoga, and West Nile is diving headfirst into an intensive week of capacity building, business growth planning, and readiness.

We kicked off Day 1 with a deep dive into financial acumen. Together with our growth facilitators, our founders are working to understand why the movement of is the foundation of any scalable .

Last week marked a major milestone for the WeWork - Green and Decent Jobs for Youth project as we wrapped up our first bootcamp! 25 high-potential SMEs from the Kampala Metropolitan region, Busoga, and West Nile gathered for an intensive journey toward building investment-ready, planet-positive businesses in the Green and Circular Economy (GCE).

The project seeks to contribute to a thriving, inclusive, and sustainable GCE ecosystem, driven by competitive, investment-ready businesses that create decent jobs, reduce environmental harm, and promote resource efficiency.

Under The Good Green Business Accelerator, entrepreneurs across 9 green sectors, from agro-processing and solar energy to green construction, eco-fashion, and waste management, came together for hands-on strategy sessions:
1️⃣ Financial Acumen: Understanding cash flow management and unit economics to build investment-ready businesses.
2️⃣ Greening vs. Circularity: We separated operational improvements (Greening - cleaner inputs and renewable energy) from structural resource recovery (Circularity - cutting waste and earning revenue from by-products).
3️⃣ Commercialization: Mapping out operational changes to match real market opportunities for direct profit.

By sharpening their financial literacy and value chain strategies, these SMEs are now better positioned to unlock low-cost business loans and subsidized talent support through this project.

Identifying a green opportunity is great, but knowing how to commercialize it is what builds a thriving !

After identifying where greening and circularity show up in their value chains, the then turned to working towards operationalizing and commercializing these sustainable initiatives to market.

They tackled how to turn circular by-products into high-demand products, who their target customers are for these new green offerings, and what operational steps are needed to deliver these value propositions efficiently.

By pulling directly from current green and practices and combining them with real opportunities, these entrepreneurs are learning that sustainability isn't just about reducing impact but also about opening new streams and gaining market share.

As an entrepreneur, how well do you track the money movement in your business?

That was the key question we explored on day one of the first bootcamp of the WeWork - Green and Decent Jobs for Youth project, as entrepreneurs dug deep into financial acumen and understanding how to manage movements in their .

Day 1 was all about breaking down complex financial concepts into practical, day-to-day tools. From analyzing working gaps to tracking every shilling flowing through their supply chains, our founders took an honest, deep look at their financial health.

Strong financial management is the backbone of any scale-up. By mastering financial acumen, these entrepreneurs are laying the groundwork to build sustainable, investment-ready enterprises that create decent jobs for Uganda's youth.
