As par for the course, I arrived home, got comfortable, and began to doze off, only to remember that I had forgotten something at the store. Consequently, I had to get up, get dressed, and head back to town.
To make matters worse, I looked up and therebhe was! Right across the street from me - my competitor, a REAL PRO! The REAL deal! 😂😂😂 In reality, yes he is a fellow professional, in the same industry (and damn good at it I might add) but he’s also a friend. Ya Joey and I are in the same profession, but we ceased being competitors a long time ago.
It had been over a year since I last saw him, and a lot had transpired in that time for both of us. I met Joey almost a decade ago when he was pressure washing a Taco Bell parking lot. I approached him and struck up a conversation, seeking advice. He appeared professional and knowledgeable, so I thought he might be willing to offer some guidance. I really didn't think he would take the time to speak with me, assuming he might view me as a competitor trying to be nosy. However, Joey surprised me by shutting down his equipment, telling his crew to take a break, and answering every question I had. He even shared his pricing with me. I wasn't expecting that level of transparency.
Joey owns JR Pressure & Soft Washing out of Lafayette, and his willingness to help me that night almost 10 years ago left a lasting impression. I would say Joey and I have long since moved past being competitors; he is now a friend. Seeing him across the street from me tonight did my heart good, and spending the next hour catching up with him was even more rewarding. It felt like we picked up right where we left off a year ago.
Many people think washing buildings, parking lots, or houses is easy, but for those of us who are true professionals, we know it requires years of hard work, dedication, and perseverance. We understand the value of being a true professional and the rewards that come with it, not just financially, but also the sense of satisfaction and pride in our work. When we complete a challenging job, we can look back on it with pride, knowing that not many others could have accomplished it.
Guys like myself and Joey are willing to go the extra mile, take on any challenge, and push ourselves to be the best. Tonight was a good night, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to reconnect with my friend. If you ever need anything, Joey, you know I've got your back. Tonight served as a reminder that when you get to share moments with colleagues who become friends, it's always a good thing. I'm thankful to have Joey as a friend. Joey, it was good to see you, brother. 😂😂😂😂 It did my heart good!
