The Mosquito Control Division has been conducting mosquito control since July 1978.

The mosquito control program primary focus is on reducing the adult mosquito population. The Mosquito Control efforts include:

An educational component that focuses on encouraging community involvement in the elimination of potential breeding sites that are associated with public health issues. Continued search for improved integrated pest management (IPM) practices as they relate to mosquito con

trol. Monitoring current and comprehensive information about the life cycles of the numerous mosquito species occurring locally in the Aberdeen area. The use of surveillance results and habitat inspection to make control decisions.

The Mosquito Control division of the City of Aberdeen will be conducting a city-wide ground spray for mosquitoes on Wednesday, August 26th between the hours of 8:30 PM and 12:30 AM.

Mosquito Control surveillance program has identified West Nile Virus as well as a high population of the Culex Tarsalis species in Aberdeen which is the primary vector for the disease. You can reduce the risk of getting West Nile Virus by eliminating mosquito habitat around your property, applying insect repellents, and wearing proper clothing when outdoors.

The adulticiding equipment is noisy and travels at 10 mph. The mosquito control trucks are identified and travel with a flashing yellow light. To ensure spray effectiveness during the spraying operations, the wind must be 15 mph or less and no inclement weather present. Winds higher than 15 mph or inclement weather will result in the spray being suspended until conditions improve.

With potential weather in the area that evening there will be a backup date of Monday, August 10th between the hours of 8:00PM and 12:00AM.
