On site this week supporting a fire water storage tank inspection project...
These systems often operate quietly in the background for years, but understanding their condition is important for long-term reliability, maintenance planning, and NFPA 25 compliance.
Appreciate the opportunity to work alongside other professionals in the industry to help clients better understand the condition of their systems.

You can’t inspect what you can’t see.

This is what it takes just to expose the surface enough to evaluate the condition inside a water storage tank.

The goal isn’t to make it look perfect, it’s to make the condition visible.

Once the surface is cleaned, you can start to see what’s really going on:
- localized corrosion
- coating breakdown
- blistering that may or may not be protecting the steel underneath

From there, we can actually measure and quantify what’s happening, not guess.

That’s the difference between assumptions and defensible data.

This is what we’re actually looking for during an internal tank inspection.

The band you’re seeing is the waterline is one of the most common areas for coating breakdown and corrosion to start.

From the outside, this tank showed no obvious issues.

Inside tells a different story.

Understanding the condition of a water storage tank requires more than just a visual inspection.

From ultrasonic thickness readings to coating evaluation and pit depth measurements, multiple methods are used to assess the condition of the tank.

The goal is simple: provide clear, reliable information so informed decisions can be made about maintenance and long-term performance.

If you’re unsure of your tank’s current condition, we’re always happy to take a look

Before entering a confined space, ventilation is critical.
This setup introduces fresh air into the tank and helps maintain a safe environment during inspection.
Entry doesn’t happen without proper ventilation and atmospheric monitoring.

Another fire water storage tank inspected and documented.

From the outside, everything may appear in good condition, and in many cases, it is.

What matters is understanding what’s happening internally and documenting conditions before they develop into larger issues.

Internal inspections provide clarity, help prioritize maintenance, and support long-term system reliability.

Exterior coating evaluation observed primer exposure through the finish coat, with localized oxidation.

No widespread corrosion or deformation was evident from grade, indicating generally serviceable exterior conditions at this time.

While exterior indicators provide useful context, internal inspection remains essential for verifying coating performance, corrosion activity, and overall tank condition in accordance with NFPA 25 and AWWA guidance.

Most exterior tank checks only tell part of the story.
The real answers show up underwater.

Here’s a view you can’t get from the ground: a clean interior wall and ladder bracket from a recent in-service inspection.

Even tanks that look perfectly maintained from the outside can hide issues below the waterline:
• Early coating wear that hasn’t shown itself yet
• Sediment collecting against brackets or penetrations
• Corrosion forming in low-flow or shadowed areas
• Components not operating the way people assume they are

You only see these conditions when you look inside, not just at the tank.
That’s why internal inspections matter.
And why NFPA 25 requires them.

If you manage a facility or oversee fire protection systems, a simple question goes a long way.
When was the last time someone actually inspected the underwater portion of your tank?

What you see on the outside doesn’t always reflect what’s happening inside.

We routinely encounter water storage tanks that appear well-maintained from the exterior but show corrosion, sediment buildup, or coating failure internally.
This is especially common at sites with multiple tanks, where one asset may receive attention while others are assumed to be in similar condition.

Internal inspections provide the clarity needed to:
• Verify actual tank condition
• Identify issues before they affect performance or compliance
• Support informed maintenance and rehabilitation planning

Whether a tank supports fire protection, potable water, or both, understanding its internal condition is critical to reducing risk and avoiding surprises.

Exterior appearance alone is not a reliable indicator of internal health.

Most water storage tanks look perfectly normal from the outside.
Inside is where the real story lives.

One of the most common conditions we see during NFPA 25 internal inspections isn’t heavy corrosion...it’s sediment.

A thin or moderate layer is expected. It builds gradually from:
• minerals in the water
• system debris
• municipal supply turbulence
• early coating wear or corrosion over time

Sediment can create issues if it starts to hide the tank floor or interfere with the suction supply. You don’t know which situation you have until you look inside.

That’s why internal evaluations matter, they give you real visibility to make the right decisions. Most tanks don’t have urgent problems.
But every tank has details you’ll never see from the ground.

Welcome to Assure Fire Solutions.

If you’re new here, here’s the simple version of what we do and why it matters.

Fire protection water storage tanks often look fine from the outside.
Inside, they can tell a very different story.

Our mission is straightforward:
- Independent, in-service internal tank inspections using remotely operated vehicles (ROVs).
- No draining.
- No downtime.

We focus exclusively on:
- Internal condition assessments
- Corrosion and sediment documentation
- Neutral observations
- Clear, visual NFPA-aligned reporting

Our goal is clarity in giving fire protection teams, engineers, and risk professionals an accurate view of the internal condition of their tanks so systems are ready when they’re needed.

Thanks for being here. More insights to come.
