This monumental walnut wardrobe from the End of Summer Estates auction is pure Renaissance Revival architecture: a projecting central tower flanked by two lower wings, each with an arched mirrored door beneath a carved cornice, dentil molding, and roundel-banded friezes. The center holds a full hanging rod, the sides are shelved, and every section has its own drawer below. Built in Massachusetts, shipped South, and standing nearly eight feet tall when it arrived. A carved mahogany three-quarter tester bed from the End of Summer Estates auction, attributed to Charles Lee of Manchester, its serpentine canopy gathered to a central rosette above tall posts, a shell-and-fruit carved headboard, and monumental urn-form footposts. Beds like this anchored the finest bedrooms in the region, and few makers did them better than Lee.
