For the second time this year and the third time in two years, Toast has significantly raised its credit card processing fees. In addition to SaaS program fee increases, Toast merchants have seen the following:

September 2024
23 bps on all card types

March 2026
10 bps on V/MC and 21 bps on AMEX

September 2026
20 bps on V/MC and 21 bps on AMEX

According to Toast's own numbers from a recent earnings call, Toast merchants average $1.2 million in processing volume annually, and approximately 22% of that volume is AMEX. Therefore, the average Toast merchant has seen the annual cost of processing increase by a whopping $6,700 in the last 24 months alone.

The suspects are accused of installing skimming devices on point-of-sale systems at retailers across west Texas in Abilene, Amarillo, and Lubbock, according to a press release from the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.
