But seriously: When it comes to plastic recycling, focus on the shape, not the number. The ""chasing arrows"" do NOT indicate whether you can recycle an item!

Plastic bottles, jars, jugs, tubs, and clear deli containers = recyclable. ♻️ Check our Smart Recycling Guide at RecycleSmartMA.org to find quick tips on what to put in your bin.

After his girlfriend insisted that their empty pizza box should go in the recycling bin, a local man, 32, turned to the Recyclopedia to try and prove her wrong.

"There's no way you can recycle that," he said. "Look, it has a grease stain on it."

Despite his confidence, the RecycleSmartMA.org search results clearly indicated that pizza boxes are recyclable. The man declined to provide further comment, but we're told the pizza box did, in fact, get successfully recycled.

While this "news" story is an April Fools joke, the fact that you can recycle pizza boxes is 100% real! Make sure your pizza boxes go in the recycling.

We say BOO 👎 to putting textiles like linens and bedding in the trash. You can donate gently used bedding. Alternatively, check with a local animal shelter to see they'd like it, or take it to a textile collection bin near you. As long as they're clean, dry, and mold-free, they can be repurposed. Check Beyond the Bin for locations: https://bit.ly/3QgCX3B

Or, we suppose you could make them into a classic Halloween costume first... 👻

Don't let food and liquid haunt your recycling! 👻 Bottles, jars, jugs, and tubs should be empty when you recycle them. A quick rinse/wipe usually does the trick. For sticky stuff, scrape it out with a spatula. Or, add a little hot water, put the lid on, and give the container a good shake.

Never fear: We're here to make recycling easy. Find tips at RecycleSmartMA.org.
