We began installing sills in the swale along Management Trail in Pennypack Trust. This will allow for sediment to be held back behind the sills, building up the bed of the swale and decreasing bank erosion. We also began a check dam of stone along a pre-constructed stone wall. It is unknown how long the wall has been there in the swale.

Re-built a bridge last week to accommodate equipment for another swale stabilization project at Pennypack Trust. The former bridge was rotted away in some spots and was quite flimsy when under pressure from horses and vehicles.

This culvert along Creek Road in the Pennypack Ecological Trust was being eroded out during heavy storms. Storm water was washing over the road creating hazardous conditions for maintenance vehicles, hikers, bikers, and equestrians. Flooding was also compromising the structural integrity of the culvert and its banks. We installed an additional culvert pipe to allow rising waters in the small tributary of the Pennypack Creek to go under the road freely. Native red-osier dogwood cuttings and bare root material were planted along the banks after invasive plants were removed.

We were asked to do this project for long time client the Pennypack Ecological Restoraion Trust (PERT). It involved the regrading of a swale which had been vastly eroded away threatening the woodland edge and native plant populations. Various erosion control measures were installed and the area is planned to be replanted in the Spring.
In addition to the swale work we were able to fix a culvert along Creek Road, which runs along the Pennypack Creek. Improving drainage in two areas along the creek's riparian area.

A long time client asked us to address a drainage issue (or lack of drainage) from their gutter system. Rain water would cascade off the roof and had been eroding out the soils around the basement door and foundation. A fairly simple french drain design now allows any cascading water to be directed to a drainage pipe and box as opposed to washing down the driveway as sheet flow (surface flow).
