The story of US Restoration begins after Wayne Catalano graduated East Jefferson High School in 1974. Shortly after graduating, Mr. Catalano, a New Orleans native, moved to Santa Monica, California to work with his fatherâs company, Carpet Care of California. He learned many skills, such as carpet installation, cleaning, and remediation while working for clients such as UCLA, USC, and 184 branches of Security Pacific National.
After five years in California Mr. Catalano decided to take what he had learned and bring it back home to New Orleans, where he opened Catalanoâs Cleaning and Restoration in 1979. Catalanoâs became the first company in New Orleans to use totally self-contained truck cleaning units. His first client was 1st Lake Development Management. Mr. Catalano was offered an audition in which he cleaned a carpet that 1st Lake believed was unsalvageable. They couldnât believe that a carpet theyâd written off as damaged beyond repair, which they had planned to throw away, was now so clean. Half an hour later, 1st Lake called to ask how soon he could return to clean the remaining carpets.
Shortly thereafter Mr. Catalano was awarded the D.H. Holmes Company in-home cleaning contract, handling all their customersâ carpet, upholstery, and drapery cleaning. He also started a new home cleaning program with Maison Blanche, another local department store. As he expanded his client base, Mr. Catalano began to serve as a full service, one-stop shop to handle all insurance claims. Whether the damage was from fire, flood, wind, or hail, Catalanoâs would handle the remediation. Working with State Farm, he became a preferred vendor for their Premier Service Program, in which Mr. Catalano acted as an emergency response mediator and wrote repair estimates for State Farm claims agents to review and approve.
In 2002, Mr. Catalano became president of Nationwide Restoration, a company he set up to handle restoration for major catastrophic events in large commercial and industrial properties, assisting clients such as Purdue University, Falk Manufacturing in Milwaukee, and the Pringles Potato Chip Plant in Jackson, Tennessee. In 2003, Mr. Catalano handled emergency service remediation, document restoration and reconstruction services for over 29 public facilities in Punta Gorda, Florida after the devastation from Hurricane Charley.
