Our chief, doing everything he can to support Allen and Ada Fire. This could have been much worse, the fire had already spread to a second house and could have taken more. Losing a home is always a tragedy, but thanks to the bravery and dedication of the firefighters from Allen and Ada they stopped it before it spread further.

Lula and Happyland arrived as quickly as possible to support them. It’s always inspiring to see Pontotoc County firefighters come together. In all my years in the fire service, I’ve seen nothing but a willingness to work together to save lives and property. This includes career firefighters, volunteers, EMS, and law enforcement.

In a world where we’re often shown the worst, this reminds me that there’s still so much good. It’s not easy sacrificing nights for training or getting called out at all hours. But if you’re willing to put in the time, answer the call, maintain equipment, handle paperwork, or help in any way, we need you. It’s expensive to equip and train firefighters, so only sign up if you’re committed. But if you do, it will be one of the most rewarding things you ever do outside of family. If you are a business owner, when your employee is needed please let them respond.

On behalf of the Happyland Volunteer Firefighters Board, we want to express how incredibly proud we are of all the firefighters who answered the call today, not only our own but also those across the county. If you weren’t already aware, we have some truly outstanding firefighters in this county, both professional and volunteer. Their dedication and bravery do not go unnoticed. Thank you for all you do! Below they are filling out the paperwork for the multiple fires they ran on today.

Important fire weather update from NWS Norman and NOAA:

Tuesday (March 4) will likely be an impactful weather day with the risk of: 1) strong winds with 50 to 60 mph wind gusts possible across western Oklahoma and north Texas; 2) critical to extreme fire weather conditions across southwest Oklahoma into north Texas; and 3) severe weather near and east of I-35.

Details on the specific hazards:

Winds: As the dry line advances eastward Tuesday morning, winds will shift to the west and become gusty across western Oklahoma and north Texas. Wind gusts between 50 to 60 mph are possible.

Fire: There is increasing concern that Tuesday could be a significant fire weather day across parts of the area. Critical to extreme fire weather conditions are possible across southwest Oklahoma into western north Texas during the afternoon. I've attached an image of the current fire weather risk. Critical fire weather conditions could expand as far east as the I-35 corridor in subsequent forecasts.

Severe Weather: There is also a risk for strong to severe thunderstorms from near I-35 to the east during the overnight Monday into Tuesday morning. Hail and damaging wind gusts are the potential hazards.

We'll keep you all updated through the weekend on any trends/changes to the forecast.

Thanks,
Vivek Mahale

Please be very careful. We are now under a burn ban due to the very severe conditions that will cause a spark or heat to start a fire. The ban on outdoor burning doesn’t cover all things that can easily start a fire. Other causes of ignition such as brush hogging, dry grass coming in contact with a hot muffler or other hot things are just as dangerous. We will hopefully get some rain this week so please try to avoid these other dangerous activities until after the rain. No burning is allowed for 14 days
if you have a fire please call us at once as it can spread very quickly.
