Tonight is the Pontotoc County Amateur Radio Association monthly meeting, and we’d love to see our regular members, new hams, old operators, and anyone who’s simply curious about amateur radio.

📻 HAM RADIO NEWS & WHAT’S HAPPENING AROUND THE AIRWAVES! 📻

There’s plenty happening in the amateur radio world right now, so here’s a quick update for our PCARA members!

🌎 Amateur Radio & Emergency Communications

A Colombian emergency communications network was recently activated following an earthquake, once again demonstrating the importance of amateur radio when normal communications infrastructure is disrupted. Events like this are a great reminder that our hobby is also a valuable public-service capability.

☀️ Solar Conditions & DX

Solar activity remains an important factor for HF operators. With propagation changing from day to day, this is a great time to turn on the radio, check the bands, and see what you can hear. The latest ARRL solar update reported moderate solar activity.

🎪 Hamfests Are Still Going Strong

The next few weeks are packed with opportunities to meet other operators, find equipment, and learn something new. The Joplin Hamfest is coming up August 21–22, and the Davenport Radio Amateur Club Hamfest is scheduled for August 29.

🚀 ARRL National Convention

The 2026 ARRL National Convention and Huntsville Hamfest are coming up August 21–23 in Huntsville, Alabama. If you're looking for a big amateur radio event with training, vendors, and plenty of fellow hams, this is one to put on the calendar.

We’re continuing to work on growing Pontotoc County Amateur Radio Association and making our club a place where new operators, experienced hams, and everyone in between can learn, operate, and have a good time.

📡 Meeting Reminder!📡

Just a reminder that the Pontotoc County Amateur Radio Association will be meeting next Tuesday, August 4th, at 6:30 PM at Pontotoc County Technology Center, Building C, Room 410.

We look forward to seeing everyone for another great evening of fellowship, learning, and all things amateur radio! Whether you're a long-time operator, a newly licensed ham, or just interested in the hobby, you're always welcome to join us.

Our club continues to grow, and we're excited about the future! As we welcome new members and expand our activities, we're exploring the possibility of having additional training and operating sessions between our monthly meetings for those interested.These extra opportunities will help members sharpen their skills, learn new aspects of the hobby, and spend more time on the air together.

Thank you to everyone who has helped make our club a success. We can't wait to see familiar faces and meet some new ones next Tuesday!

🇺🇸 Happy Independence Day from the Pontotoc Amateur Radio Association! 📻

Today we celebrate the freedoms we enjoy and remember those who have defended them.

For amateur radio operators, the Fourth of July is also a reminder that communication matters. Whether we're helping during emergencies, supporting community events, or simply making contacts across the country, ham radio continues to bring people together through service, preparedness, and friendship.

As you celebrate with family, friends, fireworks, and backyard cookouts, we hope you'll also take a moment to appreciate the freedoms that make our hobby possible.

Have a safe and enjoyable Independence Day! Stay hydrated, have fun, and if you get on the air, we'd love to hear about your holiday contacts.

Field Day 2026 is in the books!

What a fantastic weekend for the Pontotoc County Amateur Radio Association!

Over the course of Field Day, we logged 37 contacts using SSB on the 15, 20, and 40-meter bands, reaching stations in 15 different states.

While we had hoped to have two stations on the air, circumstances limited us to one—but that didn't stop us from making the most of the day.

The bands treated us well, the hamburgers and hot dogs were a hit, and, most importantly, we enjoyed great fellowship with fellow hams and visitors. That's what Field Day is really all about: operating, learning, sharing the hobby, and spending time together.

A special thank you goes to the City of Ada and the Irving Community Center for allowing PCARA to host this year's event on the facility patio. Your support helped make another successful Field Day possible.

Thank you to everyone who came out, operated, visited, cooked, and supported the event. We're already looking forward to Field Day 2027!

🚨 FIELD DAY COUNTDOWN: T-MINUS A FEW DAYS! 🚨

Dust off the radios, untangle those coax cables, and start charging batteries—Field Day is almost here!

This weekend, amateur radio operators across the nation will leave the comfort of the shack and take to the field to prove that when everything else fails, radio still works.

Will there be antennas in trees? Probably.

Will someone forget something important? Almost certainly.

Will there be radio operators having a great time making contacts across the country? Absolutely.

Whether you're a licensed operator, studying for your license, or just wondering what all this "ham radio" stuff is about, Field Day is the perfect chance to stop by and see what we do.
