Nathan here.
I started Ada Outdoors in 2013, and judging by a lot of these comments, some of you are fairly new around here. If you honestly think I built this store into what it is today by gouging customers or taking advantage of people, then you clearly don’t know much about me or this business.
So let me explain the $50 suppressor transfer fee since apparently it’s become such a terrible thing.
We hire employees. We maintain inventory. We pay insurance, licensing, utilities, compliance costs, and all the other expenses that come with operating a real brick-and-mortar gun store. We invest our own money into keeping products on the shelf and providing a local place for people to shop, ask questions, handle products, and do business in their own community.
Then somebody buys a suppressor online from somewhere else, where we make absolutely nothing on the sale, and sends it to our store for us to handle the transfer, paperwork, compliance, storage, and our employees’ time.
And somehow charging $50 for that service is “gouging”?
Give me a break.
It’s a small fee for a real service. It helps cover the time, overhead, and responsibility involved in handling a transfer for a product we didn’t sell. Expecting a local gun store to spend its employees’ time and resources processing a purchase made somewhere else—while demanding that we do it for free—isn’t supporting your local gun store. It’s expecting us to subsidize an online retailer.
If $50 is such an outrageous amount of money for a local gun store to handle a suppressor you chose to buy somewhere else, then don’t pay it. Buy the suppressor from us. Support the store that keeps products on the shelf, employs people in the community, pays local expenses, and will be here to help you before and after the sale. Or have it transferred somewhere else. Nobody is forcing anybody to do business here.
But I’m tired of listening to the bitching and especially the keyboard warriors acting like a business charging for its time and overhead is somehow doing something wrong. If you want local gun stores to remain open and available, then support them instead of complaining about a modest fee because you chose not to shop there but still want their time and services for free.
If this policy makes you want to “take your business elsewhere,” that’s perfectly fine. Go ahead. I would rather lose a transfer fee than run my business based on whoever complains the loudest on Facebook.
We’ve been here since 2013. We take care of our customers, we support our community, and we’re going to continue running this store like a business—not a free transfer service for internet retailers.
Thanks for your time
Nate
