The Allen County-Scottsville cheerleaders won in the Varsity Game Day division at Cheer Derby Grand Nationals last weekend in Lexington.

"Game Day has four parts that combine to make a routine—band chant, situational cheer (they’re given a scenario & have to determine whether to call offense or defense), crowd cheer, & fight song," explained cheer coach Diane Towe. "We are also judged on how well we lead the crowd and incorporate megaphones, Poms, signs, & flags. Along with all of that we also have to stunt & tumble. "

Towe adds, "There is also a traditional 2 & 1/2 minute division in school cheer just like all-star cheer. However, there’s less chanting in a 2.5 routine. Our big goal was to win Overall School Team which means we had the highest score out of all the school teams competing both game day & traditional!"
