This is the student-run station, formerly WCSB, that was transferred to Ideastream Public Media by Cleveland State University. 100 volunteers were ousted, but came together to form XCSB!

A quick review of our story so far:
Tansy Recycling has been collecting plastic waste since 2021. Inspired by the beautiful wetlands in Akron and a desire to protect them, Tansy’s operations began in Ryan Carpenter ‘s garage. We’d work a day or two a week cleaning, shredding, and melting food waste plastics to make injection molded art. In one year, we could digest about a hundred pounds or so of single-use plastic and make it into something functional AND fun to look at. Cool! But unfortunately not even a fraction of a drop in the bucket that is The Global Plastic Waste Issue. In 2025, we received a grant to purchase some machines— a much larger shredder and an extrusion machine. Our capacity multiplied from 100ish lbs of plastic a year to almost half a ton or more! Now we can really cook, melting plastic to make sturdy, condensed lumber (plumber) beams!

Later in 2025, we moved to a new place: the one part Tansy workshop, one part rentable artist studio space, one part DIY music venue that we called The Rookery Creative Collective! (The Rookery Akron ) Twig (twig ), our carpenter and mechanical genius, joined the team as well! With their expertise, we’ve honed in our plumber making process and now can crank out beams in a fraction of the time!!

So if you’re able, please help us as we enter this next phase of our development. We still only work at Tansy two days a week, and host around 4-5 events at the Rookery a month. Our goal is for our team to do this work full-time AND hire more folks to further expand our capacity! We want to do more mobile plastic waste education, more skill-shares, and be able to do this work safely!

Not only are they a zero-waste consignment shop for local arts, but also serve as a bulk refill station for eco-friendly household cleaning and grooming products.

We’re pretty big fans of any event where we get to hang out in a park, but this one will be special😸🌳

We’ll have our useful recycled plastic arts, upcycled fabric patches, and clothes for sale! Come on by just to say hi and feel inspired by the 50+ different artists attending! (Also, there will be a waffle truck!!! 🧇🫨)

Tinker’s Creek Watershed Partners Family Fun day, a free all-ages event to highlight the orgs doing their part to protect our waterways. 🌊🐟🦆🦞

Ryan (Ryan Carpenter ) finished crocheting the Tansy banner back there—- amazing stuff!!!!

We’re restocking our injection molded goods and are seeing some funky melting patterns coming through. Each item is a unique piece of art!!!

Hey y’all! Along with running a plastic recycling business we also manage an artist collective on Kenmore Blvd called .akron, give the page a follow if you haven’t already!

We host workshops, skill shares, clothing swaps and music events. Some of the events we have coming up are a Linocut workshop with , a monthly sewing class with , Mindfulness mediation classes in August with , two music shows, and more to be announced !!

We’re in Wooster at the today, featuring a number of artists from .akron !!! This is the largest event we’ve been at yet with so much to see, such as live sheepdog herding demos and many other vendors from around the Northeast region. 🧶🐑
