We're spending a day with fifteen people from Evergen, working out where AI actually fits into the jobs they already have.

Evergen develops and delivers biomaterials used in operating rooms to enhance patients' lives. Most of the people who depend on that work will never hear the company's name. We've been thinking about that a lot going in.

No product demo. Everyone brings their own work and leaves with one thing to try next week. Plenty of companies roll the software out and hope people figure it out. Evergen is giving fifteen of theirs a full day on their own work.

Aidan Sakata came home from college for a weekend and found his younger brother sitting in front of the TV, waiting for one character: Nick Wilde, the fox from Zootopia. Every time the camera cut to Nick, Kieran went quiet and listened. When it cut to anyone else, he said their lines for them.

Kieran has autism, and he's a gestalt learner. He doesn't process language word by word. He memorizes entire scripts.

Aidan didn't scroll past it. Two years later, Akio AI (named for his brother, Kieran Akio Sakata) is a conversational agent that helps neurodiverse kids find more speech and use it in real conversations.

Everyone wants AI to be a force multiplier. It is, and that's the catch. It multiplies your best thinking, and it multiplies your vague instructions and bad data right alongside it.

Pia Simeoni's latest Midnight Brief makes a point worth sitting with: the technology isn't the hard part. The management is. Someone still has to define the outcome, set the boundaries, and own the result.

AI won't rescue you from a metric you never defined. It just processes weak inputs faster.
