We’re proud to share that Dr. Vinoth Kumar, Senior Research Scientist III at Curia, and his team have had their research published in the European Journal of Organic Chemistry: “Green Approach for Copper-Free Pd-Catalyzed Sonogashira Cross-Coupling Using Saponin-Based Micellar Catalysis in Water at Ambient Temperature.” This innovation reduces EHS risks and offers a safer, more sustainable approach to chemical synthesis—advancing our commitment to green chemistry.

In the pharmaceutical industry, over 80% of organic waste comes from solvents. Dr. Kumar and his team identified Saponin, an inexpensive, biodegradable, and natural surfactant that effectively forms a micellar-catalysis system in water. This system enables a challenging C(sp2)─C(sp) coupling with a broad range of aryl/heteroaryl halides and diverse terminal alkynes at room temperature. We believe Saponin can serve as a cost-effective, long-term sustainable alternative to designer surfactants.

Since 2020, Curia has proudly partnered with the STEM Talent Girl Project by the ASTI Foundation—an innovative initiative dedicated to inspiring and guiding girls and young women toward careers in STEM. Through mentorship, hands on experiences and real world exposure, over 30 women at Curia have connected with students to spark , share career insights and help shape future pathways in STEM.

What a powerful evening of music and purpose! Curia Spain was proud to be the sole sponsor of the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra concert held on June 18. The event was organized by the Spanish Association Against Cancer. Funds raised from ticket sales will go toward cancer research grants and free psychological and social care services—efforts that align closely with our mission to improve lives through health and with our values.

The orchestra, made up of talented young musicians aged 14 to 18, kicked off their Spanish tour with this meaningful performance.

From all of us at Curia, thank you to everyone who made this event possible and to those who continue working every day to make a difference in the fight against cancer.
