The resilient power of microgrids was shown in the aftermath of the 7.2 earthquake that hit Haiti last week. According to a news story in Microgrid Knowledge, the 100-kW community microgrid in Les Anglais, installed by EarthSpark International, was able to continue operating, providing needed power to a community in crisis.

Rather than rebuild distribution lines damaged by fire, PG&E is working with BoxPower to install a renewables-based microgrid to provide clean, resilient power for customers in Briceburg, California. The solar + storage system is the first of 20 proposed for development through PG&E’s new Remote Grid Initiative.
