French Police are probing a Polymarket trader with username "xX25Xx" after a $119 bet netted them $21,398 the same day someone used a hair dryer to heat up a Paris Airport temperature sensor causing the high temperature to exceed the 64 degrees F threshold that day, triggering a huge payday. One has to wonder about the validation of other weather-related financial transactions that are based on weather observations, heating degree days, snowfall amounts, rainfall amounts, etc.

The incident is the latest eyebrow-raising bet on Polymarket, as allegations of rigging and manipulation continue to haunt the popular prediction market site.

Incredible mesoscale wind event occurring across the northeast…especially the NYC tri-state area up through Eastern NY. No thunder or lightning just a prolonged period of very strong wind gusts with rain and squalls associated with a cold front. Numerous trees and powerlines down across many counties. (Be very careful of wires that are down..they still could be live and pose an electrocution threat.

Peak Gusts so far:

Guilderland: Estimated 55-60 mph. Numerous trees/wires down countywide.

JFK Airport: Measured gusts to 72 mph.

Newark Airport: Measured gusts to 71 mph.

LaGuardia Airport: Measured gusts to 62 mph.

Voorheesville Mesonet: Measured gusts 56 MPH.

Albany Airport: Measured gusts to 53 mph.

Tonight’s the night. It should be a fun and educational lecture whether you join us in person or via Zoom.

I'm excited to share that I've been invited to be the guest lecturer at my alma mater, the University at Albany, this coming Tuesday March 3, 2026 at 7:00 p.m. at UAlbany's ETEC building. This is a rare opportunity to learn about Forensic Meteorology, how I built my company from the ground up a few years after graduating in 1995, and how we've been helping insurance companies, property owners, and attorneys resolve more than 10,000 weather-related claims, lawsuits, and even murders. All are welcome. I hope you can join me in person or virtually!!

✅ Bucket List: Experience a blizzard in Times Square (18” and still raging right now).

✅ Have a song performed for me by the Naked Cowboy.

✅ Geek out at 4:00 a.m. on empty Broadway with other meteorologists.

You can’t make this stuff up!!!

12:00 PM SUNDAY UPDATE: I’m not changing anything with my forecast right now despite some computer models trending a little bit further east more quickly. I’ve been on the lower end of almost all of the forecast totals I’ve seen for NYC up through Albany. I like my previous forecast for the NYC/NJ/LI areas still…as well as for Albany…but do note some models (and most other forecasters) are calling for 6-12” in Albany. Will hold steady with 3-7” of snow for the immediate Albany area but it wouldn’t shock me if we saw higher amounts. Just being transparent here for everyone.

SUMMARY: This is the longest forecast discussion I've given on Facebook in years!! A major winter storm (blizzard in many areas) will disrupt travel and many activities Sunday into Monday evening. Precipitation might begin as rain across New Jersey/NYC/Long Island early Sunday morning but should change over to all snow by early-mid afternoon. As the storm system rapidly intensifies and ‘bombs out’, intense bands of very snowfall are expected across eastern Pennsylvania, the entire New York City metro area, northern New Jersey, Long Island, and the lower Hudson Valley by early evening on Sunday. This will spread across eastern New England (CT/RI/Eastern Half of Massachusetts) Sunday Night.

DETAILS: Mesoscale models indicate that latitudinally rotating bands of very heavy snowfall will affect these areas from Sunday evening and especially Sunday Night into Monday morning. Snowfall rates as high as 2-3” per hour are likely along with the potential for some thunder snow!! In addition, this rapidly intensifying storm system will likely brings wind gusts as high as 40-50 MPH in many areas of eastern New Jersey, NYC, and Long Island that will lead to near-zero visibility and blowing and drifting snow. Computer models are quite consistent in bringing a bullseye of intense snow to coastal sections of central and southern New Jersey where I think 18-24” of snow should accumulate. A bit further north across Northern New Jersey, New York City, Long Island, the lower Hudson Valley, and into Rhode Island, CT, and southeastern MA, I’m expecting snowfall totals of 12-18” with some isolated higher amounts possible.

For the Capital Region (Albany), the snow will be slower to arrive and should begin between about 9:00 p.m. and Midnight Sunday Night. Snowfall amounts should be much less but still significant. There is some question as to how far north the ‘cutoff’ line gets between snow/no snow, but at this point I do think snow will get into the Albany area with totals between 3-7” due to a higher “fluff factor”.

SENSIBLE WEATHER/DISRUPTIONS: The snow should start to taper off Monday afternoon and Monday evening in all of these areas. If the scenario I believe will happen does happen, then most roads, rails, and airports will be severely impacted. Expect most if not all trains and flights to be cancelled by Sunday afternoon and into Monday morning. Do not drive on the roads unless absolutely necessary because snow plows will likely not be able to keep up with the rapid accumulations of snow Sunday evening into early Monday Morning.

EMERGENCY SERVICES: Police, fire, and EMS agencies should have stand by crews in place at their respective stations across Eastern PA, all of New Jersey, all of Long Island, the lower Hudson Valley, and into eastern New England. Arrange to have highway departments and pickup trucks with plows available upon dispatch to plow the roads and clear paths for stretchers for high priority, life-threatening emergencies where minutes count.

Note: I will not be giving any personal snowfall forecasts for your town. Good luck, and enjoy the storm.

Will the I-95 corridor from Philly to NYC and Boston get clobbered with another major, disruptive snowstorm Sunday into Monday? Sure looks that way!! Watching the computer model trends but my prelimibary forecast of 10-18” of snow over a large area is likely as of right now. The key will be how close to the coast the storm gets. The Euro is the odd duck out with a further offshore track, and that’s usually a good model. But we can’t ignore the NAM, GFS, WRF and others that bring 12-18” to many areas of NJ, NYC, LI, and eastern New England. This SREF plume is for NYC.

A large area of the Tennessee Valley, Mississippi Valley, and deep south experienced significant ice storm damage. Look at the numbers of people without power…many of whom will be without for power for days or a week.

This is a Doppler radar dual polarization product we call correlation coefficient. It’s currently tracking the changeover line from snow to sleet/freezing rain pushing north across Central New Jersey. Exactly how far this changeover line goes will determine who gets 3-6 inches LESS of snow.
