I believe many of my Industrial Design nerd friends will be able to appreciate this. And perhaps even many of my non-design nerd friends. This came in the mail today. Itโs a reprint of Humanscale that was originally printed in 1974. Itโs a collection of ergonomics data that, if Iโm not mistaken, originally started as part of The Measure of Man and Woman: Human Factors in Design project by Dreyfuss and Tilley. Later expanded to include a wider breadth of information, sought to sample larger swaths of humans and added these handy reference wheels. Was first made aware of this in college. This reprint by IA Collaborative came as a kickstarter style project and I bought in at $200. There were better levels but I was unable to get in quick enough. I just looked up the going rate for original copies. They go anywhere from $800 up to $10,000. Iโm assuming of some of those more expensive ones were autographed or belonged to someone of note. Nevertheless to have a hard copy for immediate, on-hand, no bogus links and click-bait, use, partly for nostalgia, the price was right.
