Some aircraft carry more than history.
They carry stories, memories, and inspiration across generations.
Here in Albany, the legendary TBM Avenger at Hangar 743 stands as a reminder of the young pilots who once changed history. Warbirds like this connect us to a time of courage, sacrifice, and aviation at its purest form.
Together, we’re proud to support and preserve that history — not only for those who lived it, but for the next generation discovering it for the first time.
Recently, we met Logan - an 18-year-olc passionate about WWII aviation history. Inspired by the iconic 1944 photo of young George H. Bush sitting in the cockpit of his Avenger during WWII, Logan dreamed of recreating that exact moment himself.
And we made it happen.
Using the historic Avenger right here in Albany, Logan stepped into the same story - recreating the famous black-and-white photo, then bringing it into today through a modern portrait of a new generation inspired by the past.
Projects like this are more than recreations.
They turn history into something personal. Tangible. Real.
Seeing young people connect so deeply with aviation history reminds us why preserving these aircraft matters so much.
At Hangar 743 and Million Air Albany, we love supporting the passion for aviation - whether it comes from those who lived the history, or those dreaming about it today.
Because history deserves to be remembered.
And stories like these deserve to keep flying.

This Friday, Albany International Airport will welcome back United States Army Air Corps 2nd Lt. Joseph “Roy” Burke, a Troy native who gave his life during World War II.

Lt. Burke trained right here in Albany, earning his wings through the Civilian Pilot Training Program before going on to serve his country. He flew the legendary P-40 Warhawk in the Pacific Theater, including missions over the Philippines.

On January 9, 1945, Lt. Burke died as a prisoner of war.
For decades, his family had no answers… until 2025, when DNA identification finally brought him home.

Now, after all these years, his journey comes full circle.

An honor guard will conduct a dignified transfer upon his arrival at Albany International Airport — the very place where his aviation story began.

Funeral services will be held at Siena University Chapel, where he once studied, followed by burial at Saratoga National Cemetery.

Today, we don’t just remember a pilot.
We honor a son, a student, a soldier… and a hero.

Welcome home, Lt. Burke. 🇺🇸
