With over 30 years of law
enforcement experience, I have learned the importance of having both the skills needed to successfully do the job correctly and policy that is reflective of the needs of the officers and not the other way around. By pairing simple and effective defensive tactics with a use of force policy that is easily understood and keeps officers from having to second guess themselves in the heat of the moment, both officers and agencies will reduce the risks of increased injuries to both the officers and the offenders, excessive uses of force involving non-lethal and lethal weapons, and reducing the number of lawsuits that result from these types of incidents. Our goal is to prevent officers from having to escalate levels of force throughout a confrontation by using the force necessary from the outset to mitigate higher levels of force used overall. Invicta Strategic Solutions also recognizes that agencies may require assistance with various aspects of both administrative and operational protocols. A well run, professional law enforcement agency is critical to the communities they serve and to the officers who are serving. We are committed to maintaining the high level of professionalism that the law enforcement community provides to its citizens. Invicta Strategic Solutions understands the threats posed to other organizations such as churches, schools and colleges, and other businesses. Public safety is cornerstone of the law enforcement profession and we work to ensure that our communities are safe as well. We offer threat/vulnerability assessments along with civilian self-defense classes that focus on being situationally aware and avoiding a confrontation, but provide techniques that help you survive a violent confrontation. John Lanier is the founder and chief instructor at Invicta Strategic Solutions, LLC, located in North Carolina, and conducts defensive tactics training for officers across the state. He has over 30 years of law enforcement experience, including six years as a military police officer in the U.S. Army, and retired as a lieutenant with the Salisbury Police Department. During his time there, he served in a variety of assignments that included patrol, field training officer, vice/narcotics, and the special response team. He is certified by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission as a general instructor, specialized physical fitness instructor, and an explosives and hazardous materials instructor. John is also certified to teach Karate, Taekwondo, Kung-Fu, Hapkido, and Bong-Sul by the International Chayon-Ryu Martial Arts Association. John has successfully completed the Force Science Institute's Use of Force Investigations course and he is a certified to conduct security assessments by the American Crime Prevention Institute. He is currently one of the instructors for the Basic Law Enforcement Training program at Stanly Community College where he has taught a wide range of classes for both the academy and for the in-service training program. John earned his master’s degree in justice studies from Fort Hayes State University. His thesis, “Factors Determining the Effectiveness, Retainable Skills, and Need for Police Defense Tactics Techniques” was the baseline for his work on the need for more defensive tactics training.
