This photo may look simple to many people, but to me, it tells a much bigger story.

As we sit around this fire, I don't just see flames lighting up the night. I see family. I see time spent together. I see a child enjoying a moment that doesn't require a screen, a substance, or anything artificial to create happiness. Just family, fresh air, laughter, and memories being made.

This picture reminds me of what recovery and healing are really about. It's about being present. It's about choosing connection over isolation and memories over missed moments. It's about living life instead of escaping it.

To some, it's just a bonfire on an ordinary night. To me, it's a symbol of a happy family spending time together, staying away from the things that once stole precious moments, and truly living. These are the moments that matter. These are the memories that last. ❤️🔥👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

We’re excited to share that we now have FREE fentanyl test strips, xylazine (tranq) test strips, Narcan, and injectable naloxone available in our community!

Why does this matter?

In Minnesota, fentanyl continues to be the leading driver of overdose deaths. In 2024, deaths involving synthetic opioids, primarily fentanyl, were linked to 610 deaths statewide.

Xylazine, a veterinary sedative often called "tranq," is increasingly being found mixed with fentanyl. Minnesota reported 70 xylazine-involved overdose deaths from 2019-2022, and fentanyl was present in 100% of those deaths.

Test strips are a simple harm reduction tool that can help identify the presence of fentanyl or xylazine in a substance before use. While no test can guarantee safety, knowledge saves lives.

Everyone deserves the chance to stay alive, seek recovery when they're ready, and make informed decisions about their health.

Unfortunately, my husband and two kids are not feeling well, so we won't be able to join the walk with the Freeborn County Crime Victim's Crisis Center today.
We still have signs available for anyone who would like one. Feel free to stop by our yard at 1313 S. Broadway Ave., Albert Lea and pick one up.
