I'm Emily, the founder of Thompson Reeds LLC. I just wanted to let you know a little about myself so you know who is making your reeds. First off, music is absolutely my life and has been for the majority of my life. I started off learning piano and guitar at a young age, which led me to the oboe starting in 6th grade band. I knew from a young age that I was always going to major in music. I atten
ded the University of Arkansas where I received a Bachelor's in Music Education and shortly after a Master's of Music in Oboe Performance. While in school I played in local orchestras around Northwest Arkansas which include: Symphony of Northwest Arkansas, Ft. Smith Symphony, Opera of Fayetteville, and the Arkansas Philharmonic Orchestra. Early in my college career, I also started teaching private oboe lessons, which eventually led me to teaching double reeds privately at schools in Northwest Arkansas. Now living in New Mexico with my lovely husband, my main job is making reeds, teaching privately and occasionally playing with the Albuquerque Philharmonic. My goal is to make quality reeds for oboists and bassoonists across the nation at a fair price as well as to encourage young musicians to keep playing music!
