Still coming down off the Vintage motorsports high we all experienced at the Monterey Vintage Reunion at Laguna Seca this weekend! Special thanks to TAZ HARVEY and the entire Harvey Auto Group Racing Team for embracing me as one of their own!
Too many cool experiences to process, but here’s a short list:
1. The first public firing of the Honda RC 174 296cc 6 cylinder George Bealle number three bike.
2. An exhibition ride at Laguna piloting Jim Redman’s Honda CR72 double overhead cam 250 twin race bike.
3. A ride on the Vintage race bikes from Laguna Seca to the Quail Motorsports Gathering escorted by California Highway Patrol with world champions, Kenny Roberts, Freddie Spencer,
Wayne Rainey,
Kevin Schwantz, Eddie Lawson and KR Jr.
I got to follow Taz Harvey on his howling 50cc DOHC CR110 racer.
4. Exhibition laps with Pops Yoshimura’s grandson, aboard his grandfather’s actual HONDA CB72 race bike that beat a few factory hondas and got Pop recognized as a master tuner.
5. Following 5 World Champions riding together around Laguna Seca.
6. Reconnecting with my friend Ron M, owner of the original Bob Hansen CR450. He is such a great historian of this bike ridden by Jim Odem at Daytona.
7. Wrenching on some rare HONDA racing candy: CR72,
CR110 and the Amazing RC174 six.
8. A great hang with fellow vintage HONDA lunatics: Taz Harvey, Dalton Davore, John Barrett, Somer Ho**er, Everett, Scott and the Harvey crew….
9. Showing my Honda CB92R Benly with all the other rare Hondas.
9. Again, full of gratitude to the entire Harvey family for the hospitality!
