🎨 Kathleen Shields has been a huge influence on Legacy Lab New Mexico, as a colleague, mentor, supporter, and friend! During the event she will speak about how she stewarded Frederick Hammersley's legacy as executive director of his artist endowed foundation, and about the impact that his life, artwork, and legacy continue to have on the local community and beyond.

If you happen to be in Norman, Oklahoma, be sure to check out "On the Edge: The Abstract World of Frederick Hammersley," the current exhibition of Hammersley's work at the Fred Jones Jr Museum of Art. The works on view are from the incredible Hugon Collection, based in Oklahoma. Two of my favorite Hammersley works are pictured, "Redscape" (1959) and "Out of the Blue" (1994). 😍

📣JUST THREE TICKETS LEFT! Join the other 126 people at Legacy Lab this June 🤓 Registration link in bio.

Kathleen Shields is from Syracuse, New York, and attended Mount Holyoke College (1973-1977) and the University of New Mexico, where she received her M.A. (1980) and M.F.A. (1982) in Studio Art. She has been an arts writer, editor, and curator since 1979; was Associate Editor for Artspace Magazine (1982-1986); founding director of Graham Gallery and Kathleen Shields Contemporary Art Projects (1986-1992); Assistant to Ray A. Graham and Administrative Director of the Elizabeth Firestone Graham Foundation (1986-2009); Administrator of Walter De Maria’s The Lightning Field for Dia Art Foundation (1987-2016); and Executive Director and President of the Frederick Hammersley Foundation (2009-2022). She is currently an advisor to the Frederick Hammersley Fund for the Arts at the Albuquerque Community Foundation and occasionally writes about art and other topics from her home in Corrales where she has lived since 1995.

⚒️ I now know waaaaaay more about building a gravel base than any normal person should. Redoing it a few times too.

What's that? Doesn't look level? Trust me, it is, but nothing else at this site is. Welcome to my world.

Also, renting a plate compactor is stupid expensive.
