Improve Group

Improve Group www.improvegroup.net The purpose of constructing a building is not to construct a building. It’s to create a place for organizations to thrive.

Buildings are not meant to serve themselves, because it’s not really about the space. Buildings are meant to help the people inside them do better work, in better ways. Why is it then that we focus so much on the construction phase of a building, when its true purpose begins only after the last nail has been hammered into place? While construction focuses on the needs of today, a building must con

tinue to help drive the objectives of a business far into the future. The building is not an end unto itself, but a means to a more deep and meaningful influence on the people inside it. Improve Group is a construction innovator with millions of dollars under contract, new modular construction technology, unheard-of completion speeds, and an unrivaled integrated process. We want to continue to grow while improving the lives of more people and organizations. We are willing to take risks, innovate, and move quickly, which makes us confident we’ll not only reach our vision for growth, but will ensure our continued success for the long term. Leaders here must be willing to move fast, serve the team before serving the self and invest in building a strong culture. In our fast-paced work environment, that’s not always easy, but we have a great team and a deep sense for the purpose of what we’re trying to achieve.

If you’ve ever built anything, you’ve probably experienced the pain of this graph in real life. Risk posturing, CYA, and the standard tension of a project meeting reinforce the reality of the situation.

Many have hypotheses for how to fix it: better digital platforms, advanced AI, new construction methods and materials. And they all have merit. Surely the industry will need all of them, but what if we’re overlooking a more fundamental challenge:

The human tendency toward fragmentation and the need for radical integration.

There are few industries where the manpower needed to achieve the end result is more fragmented than construction. That fragmentation’s tendency toward misaligned incentives, litigation, and waste drives up cost and drives down productivity. The results are becoming more untenable as labor and supply chains are getting more strained.

We call ourselves a “construction integration company” precisely for this reason. Design and construction need human-level integration first. Where those that own the building, design the building, and build the building work together from the beginning to drive better outcomes and build deeper trust.

Providing a comfortable & cheerful environment for young patients at UNMH

Ideally, the terms 'pediatric' and 'hospital' would never need to coexist. Yet unfortunately, they must, and the mission of this project was to transform the University of New Mexico's Pediatric Care Center into a vibrant, welcoming place for children and their families who utilize its services.

By using prefab interiors, vivid wall graphics, and interactive surfaces, this once clinical environment gave way to an atmosphere that exudes positivity and comfort, catering to the well-being of both children and their caregivers. The whimsical drawings were specifically designed to calm children waiting for their appointments, starting in the lobby and continuing all the way through to the exam rooms.

A digital war requires a different type of fortress.

Our September partner highlight is the SCIF Construction Experts: Adamo Security Group. Adamo has built and consulted on more than 1,000 SCIFs, and 100% of their facilities have met very strict accreditation requirements that ensure the facility is fully secure before it is put into use.

As the technology available to the world advances, so do the threats to the sensitive information that keeps our country safe. These secure facility solutions ensure that governments, military units, and contractors all over the world have the ability to process, store and discuss classified information safely.

Protecting Albuquerque’s students and ensuring a secure learning environment through adaptive reuse.

Albuquerque Public Schools understands the importance of keeping kids safe. That’s why it recently pursued this adaptive reuse effort to convert some of its existing warehouse space into a state-of-the-art Police Command Center. The center now serves as the central hub of security for all APS schools and better supports the officers that work day-in and day-out to ensure student safety on school grounds across the city.

APS has been diligent in consolidating its support departments to increase operational efficiency and more effectively utilizing its existing space, saving taxpayer dollars while still allowing these important modernizations to take place. Prefabricated construction has been a key component of APS’s strategy of procurement, speed of construction, and future flexibility for its spaces.

A recent study found that 89% of fighter pilots reported physical pain that had a significant impact on their flight mission, while 63% of these pilots reported pulling early out of turns because of this pain.

Maximizing the lethality, performance, and longevity of these pilots requires a health program that incorporates cognitive performance, emotional resiliency, strength & conditioning, performance nutrition, and physical therapy. That's why it was such a privilege to take part in health and human performance innovation for the 309th Fighter Squadron at Luke Air Force Base.

The squadron’s TITAN (Tactical Integrated Training and Nutrition) Arena houses the 56th FW Human Performance Team which supports holistic performance improvement across physical and psychological domains to 210 Luke AFB fighter pilots. The renovations include 14,150 square feet of nutrition and exercise space including a complete indoor workout space, a nutrition center, office spaces, a PT center, and locker/bathrooms.

We believe that sometimes the solution isn’t a new building, but a better fitted one. There will never be a perfect building, but there can be more optimized spaces—in less time.

Upgrading and remodeling can orient an existing space to the needs of the people it was designed to serve.

What if human performance centers could not only prepare warfighters for the next mission, but for a successful career, and possibly even a healthy life after their service is complete?

We develop project pathways around each Unit's mission and objectives to ensure continued alignment with goals. We also drive efficiency through new, modular construction technologies, and utilize streamlined procurement pathways to minimize complexity and delays.

Supporting an underrated component of education: transportation.

Without safe and reliable transportation to school, no learning can happen. Albuquerque Public Schools is modernizing its transportation infrastructure which includes the construction of new bus depots; places for the Transportation Department team to call ‘home’ during the day while they work to ensure every child has a ride to school.

Like many organizations, recruiting has become an increasing challenge for APS over the years. But these positions (like bus drivers and support staff) are critical for our education system to run smoothly, especially for the children who rely solely on the bus to get to/from school. As a result, APS has made it a priority to modernize its administrative workspaces to help ensure it remains a competitive employer during this labor shortage.

APS was able modernize an existing space for one depot and build ground-up for another. The modular interior system implemented at both locations gave it the flexibility to express its culture and mission and manifest a consistent, bright vibe across the two facilities.

The depots consist of offices, conference rooms, breakroom spaces, kitchen and dining areas, training classrooms, and writeable surfaces throughout.
