It is such a pleasure to work with my comadre and playwright Patricia Crespin to bring voices to her beautiful play, "Living Purgatory." And I can't say enough about the incredible cast of actors and poets reading for this performance. Thank you for saying yes! 💛🙏🏽💛
Join us for a staged reading of LIVING PURGATORY, written by Patricia CrespĂn and directed by Alicia Lueras Maldonado.
Thursday, November 21 at 6:30pm at the National Hispanic Cultural Center | Wells Fargo Theatre.
SYNOPSIS
Frida Kahlo, Lupe Vélez, La Llorona, and Malinche will do anything to escape their eternal limbo and get a second chance at redemption. So, when Denise and her baby, Allegra, arrive in Purgatory, the women unite to help Baby Allegra make the journey back to the land of the living. To do this, the women must face the reasons for their own damnation and confront the sins that bind them to Purgatory. This haunting and emotionally charged narrative offers a profound exploration of redemption, self-forgiveness, and the devastating power of guilt.
