He received his advanced degree in tax law from the University of Denver in 1980 (L.L.M.). He passed the New Mexico Bar Exam in 1979. He is licensed to practice law in all of the courts in the State of New Mexico, Federal District Court, and U.S. He is a member of the

Taxation and Elder Law sections of the State Bar of New Mexico. Scott founded his own firm in 1980 and practiced solo until 2001. From 2001 to 2011 Scott was a shareholder and practiced at the firm of Moses, Dunn, Farmer & Tuthill, P.C. In September 2011 Scott left the Moses Law Firm in favor of his current solo practice at the S.S.
