Está bien si se te olvida. Solo pregunta. 💛

No entendemos bien.

It's okay if you forget. Just ask. 💛

"Tell me, I forget.
Show me, I remember.
Involve me, I understand."
Chinese proverb

When I first read this proverb, I thought it was about forgetting. Then me cayó el veinte! it clicked!

It's about how we learn.

We don't learn by being told once. We remember when someone takes the time to show us. We understand when someone walks beside us and lets us try.

And along the way, we forget. We misunderstand. We need reminders. We need someone to explain it again, or show us in a different way.

And that's okay. It's going to happen. We are not perfect, and we were never meant to be. So instead of feeling bad or being hard on ourselves, we can offer ourselves a little grace and simply ask again.

None of that makes us less intelligent, less capable, or less worthy. It makes us human.

Right now, so many people are carrying so much. We need patience, kindness, compassion.

So instead of "I already told you," we can say, "Of course, let me show you again."
Instead of pretending we understand because we feel embarrassed, we can say, "I forgot. Can you remind me?"
Instead of doing it for someone, we can invite them in and do it together.

And this work goes both ways. Compassion and accountability belong together. We can be patient when someone else forgets, and give ourselves permission to ask again when we are the one who forgot. And when someone takes the time to show us, we do our part too. We listen, we practice, we try again, and we own it when we drop the ball.

Flourishing isn't about being flawless. It's about creating families, workplaces, classrooms, and communities with enough safety and belonging that we can learn, forget, ask, try again, and keep growing together.

You don't have to know everything to belong.
You just have to be willing to stay curious. 🌱

🌿 I'm officially a Certified Practitioner of the Reconsolidation of Traumatic Memories™ (RTM) Protocol! 🧠

There's a moment in RTM I never get tired of seeing.

Someone comes in carrying memories that still feel like they're happening. They feel them in their chest, in their sleep, in the way they brace for what's next. Then, after we do the work, they sit back, take a breath, and say something like, “It's still there… but it doesn't feel intense anymore, I feel so much lighter”

That moment is why I love this work!

For many of us, trauma wasn't just one bad day. It was many hard moments, often starting when we were little, that piled up over years. It can feel like carrying a backpack full of heavy stones. You get so used to the weight that you forget you're carrying it.

🧠 Here's what's happening in the brain:

Your brain has a smoke alarm. Its job is to keep you safe. When something scary happens, the alarm remembers it. Later, even small reminders can set it off, like a sound, a smell, or a tone of voice. Your body reacts as if the danger is happening right now.

But here's the amazing part. Every time you remember something, your brain opens that memory, like opening a file. For a short time, the memory becomes soft, like warm masa. Then your brain saves it again.

If you remember something while feeling calm and safe, your brain can save it with less fear. The memory stays. The alarm quiets down.

That's what RTM does. It helps you look at hard memories from a safe distance, like watching a movie from the back of a theater, so your brain can save them in a new way.

With complex trauma, we work gently, one stone at a time. Each memory we work through can make the whole backpack feel lighter.

RTM felt like such a natural fit for me. With my training in hypnosis, EMDR, I already know the power of imagery and perspective. Our cultures have long had words for this too. Many of us grew up hearing about susto, when something scary leaves a piece of us behind, and healing means calling that piece back home. I love making room for both ways of understanding.

What I appreciate most about RTM:
🌿 We touch the memory gently and briefly, from a safe distance. You don't have to stay in the pain to heal it.
🌿 It's short and structured. How many sessions you need depends on your story.
🌿 It can be a focused service on its own, or part of your bigger healing journey.

The goal isn't to erase what happened. It's helping your brain and body finally know:

"It happened. I survived. And it is not happening now."

💛 I'm now accepting clients for RTM for trauma, nightmares, flashbacks, and memories that still feel too close.

Send Voces de Vida a message at 505-550-3367 to learn more or schedule a session.

Ama a tus animales. 🐾🤎

My Smokie 🐾🤎

This is my Smokie.

He came into my life during a season of burnout and compassion fatigue, a time when I had spent so much of myself holding space, caring, working, thinking, solving, and carrying that my own nervous system was asking for somewhere to simply rest.

And somehow, this little guy became part of that resting place.

Smokie doesn't need me to explain myself. He doesn't need me to be productive, insightful, strong, regulated, or useful. Sometimes he just crawls up next to me, presses his little body against mine, closes his eyes, and simply exists with me.

There is something deeply regulating about being loved by a creature who is perfectly content with your presence. 🤎

And there's science behind this, too. Our bonds with animals can support nervous-system decompression and emotional regulation. Petting, cuddling, playing, walking, or simply sitting beside an animal may help:

🐾 create a sensory anchor through warmth, touch, rhythm, and gentle pressure
🐾 slow us down and bring our attention back to the present moment
🐾 lower physiological stress and arousal
🐾 invite movement, play, routine, and time outdoors
🐾 ease loneliness and deepen our sense of companionship
🐾 offer connection without requiring conversation or emotional performance
🐾 create small moments of safety, predictability, affection, and joy

That last one matters so much for those of us whose work is caring for other human beings.

Regulation isn't another coping skill to master. Sometimes it's a warm little body curled against yours, reminding your nervous system “You don't have to do anything right now. You can just be here.”

My loyal companion. My decompression buddy. My Smokie. 🐶🤎

Thank you for finding me in a season when I needed somewhere soft to land.

Love your animals. Truly love them. And remember that your essence is connected with theirs, too. 🐾🤎

Y no estás solo, no estás sola.

Una respiración. Una oración. Un paso a la vez. ❤️

I keep hearing the same thing from people lately, in the therapy room and in the grocery line and at church. They are scared, and they are embarrassed about being scared.

So I want to say this plainly. Fear is not a character flaw. When the world around you feels unsafe, your body starts working overtime to keep you alive. The stomach that won't settle, the sleep that won't come, the short fuse with the people you love most, the mind that keeps rehearsing the worst thing. That is not weakness. That is not a lack of faith. That is a nervous system doing its job.

What worries me is not the fear itself. It is what fear does to us when we carry it alone. Fear tells us to make ourselves small, to stop answering the phone, to stop going to the places where people know our name. And the quieter we get, the bigger the fear grows.

This is where community becomes medicine. Not in a soft, decorative way. In a real, physical way. When someone knows there is a person who would notice their absence, a person who would pick up the phone, a person who would sit beside them without trying to fix anything, something in the body begins to settle. The danger has not disappeared. They are just no longer facing it by themselves.

We were never meant to do this alone. Some days you will be the one holding the courage. Other days someone will hold it for you until you can feel it again for yourself.

Swipe through for the ways we can show up for each other right now. Take what fits your life and your capacity. You do not have to do all of it. You just have to do something that is yours.

You matter here. You belong here. And you are not alone.

One breath. One prayer. One step at a time. ❤️

Ama a tu prójimo.

Eres amado. Eres importante. Aquí perteneces. Y no estás solo.

Poder. Amor. Discernimiento.

Una respiración. Una oración. Un paso a la vez. ❤️

"For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind." -2 Timothy 1, verse 7

If you are afraid right now, I want you to hear something. Your fear does not mean you have failed God. Your fear does not mean your faith isn't strong enough.

There are people in our communities carrying very real worries about their families, their futures, their safety, and what tomorrow might bring. I don't want to take this beautiful verse and use it to shame anyone. I don't want a single person to hear "if you had enough faith, you wouldn't be afraid." That is not what I hear when I sit with these words.

The Greek word translated here as fear is deilia. It carries the idea of timidity, of cowardice, of shrinking back because fear has taken over the whole house. Paul never promises Timothy that he will stop feeling afraid. He reminds him of what he still carries in the middle of it.

Dynamis, power. You still have capacity. Fear does not get to convince you that you are powerless.

Agapē, love. Stay connected. Let yourself be loved. Love your neighbor. Remember one another's humanity.

Sōphronismos, sound judgment and self governance. Pause. Breathe. Discern. Seek truth. Take the next wise step.

So faith may not sound like "I am not afraid." Sometimes faith sounds like "I am afraid, God. And I am still here."

I can be afraid and still love. I can be afraid and still ask for help. I can be afraid and still think clearly. I can be afraid and still hold someone's hand. I can be afraid and still protect my neighbor. I can be afraid and still take the next step. I can be afraid and still believe that fear does not get the final word.

And if today you don't feel powerful, this is part of why we have community. Sometimes we hold courage for one another until the other person can feel it again for themselves.

So to anyone carrying fear today, come closer. You do not have to pretend. You do not have to perform strength. You do not have to carry everything by yourself. You are loved. You matter. You belong. And you are not alone.

Power. Love. Discernment.

One breath. One prayer. One step at a time. ❤️
