NEED ASSISTANCE WITH RADIATION EXPOSURE COMPENSATION ACT (RECA) CLAIMS?

The Radiation Exposure Compensation Act (RECA) is a federal law that compensates persons who developed certain types of cancer following exposure to radiation from the U.S. government nuclear weapons program, or their eligible survivors.

RECA also provides compensation to persons who worked in occupations related to uranium mining (such as uranium mines or uranium mills) or mine remediation, or their survivors, and who were diagnosed with certain types of cancer or certain types of lung or kidney diseases.

SCLO provides no-cost general legal advice to qualified New Mexicans aged 60 and older about eligibility for RECA and the RECA claims process. SCLO can also assist eligible seniors with obtaining the documents they need to file a claim under RECA.

PLEASE NOTE: The deadline to submit a RECA claim is December 31, 2027.

If you or someone you know was exposed to radiation from U.S. nuclear programs, you may be eligible for compensation through the Radiation Exposure Compensation Act (RECA). Qualified individuals may receive a one-time payment of $100,000.

Eligibility includes downwinders, uranium workers, onsite participants, and individuals affected by Manhattan Project waste. If you developed certain cancers or serious illnesses after exposure, it’s important to learn more about your options.
