LSWs, or Light Support Weapons, are a growing category of fi****ms that a properly armed citizen should definitely become familiar with.
At it's core, its a heavier built rifle using a bipod and some sort of forced-reset trigger or super safety, to mimic controlled automatic fire (even though they are legally classified as semi-auto fi****ms). This is useful in team settings where having a few of these spread amongst a team can dramatically increase volume of fire on and around a target. This makes them ideal for using minimal personnel to create maximum suppressive effects on target, allowing more personnel in the team freedom of manuever while an opponent is suppressed. These fi****ms are often coupled with belt-fed upper receivers or drum magazines, and some even have quick-change barrels to help mitigate heat build-up.
They are NOT machineguns, and cannot quite provide the same longevity or concentrated sustained fires. Lack of open-bolt function means they're still susceptible to cook offs, as even with a spare barrel available the heat won't dissipate fast enough to handle more than perhaps 2-3 belts/drums before both barrels are scorching.
Regardless, they're a potent addition to citizens that brings us all very close to the effects of a "happy switch" without the cost or legal drama associated with them.
