I recently flew to Oklahoma to meet with clients from the Eastern Shawnee Tribe of Oklahoma that I have been consulting for over the past year, but had never met. While there I had the opportunity to tour the entire community, meet and work with staff and get a vision of where they want to be as a community. The Eastern Shawnee Tribe's ancestoral homelands occupied areas from the Middle Ohio Valley from Kentucky to West Virginia. Where they once enjoyed a culture, lands and equity as individual tribes scattered across the Ohio Valley, they now share the uppermost corner of Oklahoma and Missouri with nine other tribes. They were one of the first tribes forced west during the Trail of Tears (Indian Removal Act of 1830), so getting a "vision of where they want to be as a community" is a completely vexing counterintuitive. How about "NOT in northeastern Oklahoma" for starters.... Every Tribe I have worked with have followed the 7th Generation Principle; meaning the decisions we make today should result in a sustainable world 7 generations in the future..... if only we could've learned this rather than think we were "educating and civilizing" them, maybe we wouldn't be destroying ourselves now.

We just received the reissuance of a contract we were awarded back in March to assist the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe in development of a comprehensive housing strategy. The Tribe has been extra cautious about opening anything too quickly and won't be opening their businesses or casino until August 31st. I definitely will be extra cautious and likely complete most of the plan virtually or remotely. Being historic for wiping out an entire Tribe is NOT something I want to be known for!

Very saddened this week to learn that one of my clients from the Mohawk Tribe has lost two of her family members to COVID-19 in one week. Tribal communities are especially vulnerable to this disease and risk further decimation. Whether or not you believe in the virus, please believe it is affecting others and continue to do your part.

MacCallum Consulting is privileged to have written the successful $1M Healthy Homes Initiative Grant- Year Two-for the Akwesasne Mohawk Tribe. Funded by HUD, This grant will develop home hazard assessment and intervention methods, as well as public education which stresses ways in which the Mohawk community can mitigate housing-related hazards, especially for children and elderly.

We continue to work with this awesome community to build capacity and self-sufficiency to assist them in becoming the best they can be!

MacCallum Consulting was successful in securing a grant from Enterprise Community Partners on behalf of the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe. With this grant, we will assist the tribe with completing a housing strategy and assessment which will allow the Tribe to address their long term housing needs. We are very happy to be a part of this effort!

We are very pleased to learn that the grant application that MacCallum Consulting submitted on behalf of the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe to the Department of Justice Office of Victims Services has been funded. This 3 year, $687,000 grant will fund counseling and other support services to victims of crime, especially those of trauma, sexual abuse and domestic violence. This program benefits all of us and hopefully will lead to the road to recovery for the victims.
