🌊 Tropical Storm Erin is gaining strength

Forecasts show Erin could become a major hurricane by this weekend as it moves near the northern Caribbean. While the exact path is still uncertain, areas from Puerto Rico to the U.S. East Coast could see heavy rain, high surf, and dangerous rip currents.

If you’re in or near a potential impact area, take a few minutes today to check your emergency plan, stock up on essentials, and secure outdoor items. Small steps now can make a big difference later.

📊 After the Storm: Why Acting Fast Matters

We’re heading into the peak of hurricane season — and how quickly you activate and document damages can make or break your recovery timeline.

From disaster declarations to long-term funding, it all starts with clear communication. Here are 4 ways local governments and nonprofits can stay ahead:

📸 Set up photo documentation protocols
🗂️ Use templates for cost tracking and timekeeping
👷 Train your team on damage assessment and data collection

It’s HOT — Here’s How to Stay Safe This Week

Summer heat is more than uncomfortable — it can be dangerous. We’re seeing extreme temperatures in many areas this week, and we want to share some easy ways to stay safer:

🌳 Try to park in the shade — car interiors can reach over 130°F
🔌 Don’t charge your phone in a hot car — it can overheat the battery
💧 Freeze water bottles the night before to keep cool on the go
🧢 Wear light-colored, breathable clothes if working outside
🕶 Take breaks in shaded areas, and hydrate often

These small steps can help prevent heat-related illness. From individual safety to community-wide coordination, DCMC Partners is here to support emergency planning and resilience year-round.
