TIP OF THE WEEK!!!
This may seem very basic, but some people don't realize that to have a business, you must "serve" someone.
1. To have a business/movement, you must have ... yes, that's right ... customers/clients. Someone who values you and what you have to offer whether that is a product, a service or an idea.
2. How do I build my list? You may say, "I don't know anybody and I don't have any money." OK. Not a problem. Like I heard John Maxwell say, "everybody starts at zero." He started his church with 3 people, one was his wife. You don't have to know millions of people. But, you do need to know at least 1 person who cares enough about you and your product/offering that will tell others. When I started a bible study, years ago, I had 3 people, the next week, I had 8. Growth is exponential. Teach 1 person who will teach 2, who will teach 4. That's a network marketing strategy. It works for every industry-church included.
3. Get the person's email, phone number for texts/calls, and when applicable, their address-maybe part of your offering is some kind of sample. You need a way to stay in touch and then, even more importantly ... here's the key ... keep in touch!!!
You wouldn't believe how many people fail to do this very simple thing. When I sold manufactured homes, I kept a list of everyone who I talked to. Every month, I would send them a handwritten note. Within a few days of their first visit, I sent them a "Thank you!" note for stopping by. The 2nd month was something of value. That doesn't mean I sent them a product. It means I gave them a tip on changing your air filters-something in relation to caring for a home.
I want to emphasize that it is about building relationships. People don't CARE how much you know until they know how much you CARE.
At least once a year, I would send out a newsletter, when I was a Realtor, that was NO SALES! Just a "Hi! Here's what's been happening in my life and my family's life this year."
When I sent those newsletters, I would get at least 4 people contacting me telling me they were interested in buying or selling a home. NO SALES! Just relationships.
I'll have a tip on newsletters soon. They're a very effective tool. Now, with emails and facebook, etc., they're very inexpensive to do.
If you will, what I would like for you to do, is to take the above tip and put it to use in your business/movement this week. Post how it worked for you. Did you add to your list? How many customers/clients did you add? How do you plan to keep in touch with them? Yes, I'll give you more tips on that, but ... be creative.
Make more than just one way to keep in touch with them. Have at least 4. Social media is probably the first one. Email and/or text is the next obvious. A monthly newsletter. A YouTube channel is good for all kinds of businesses, even if you don't have a product. Ideas-coaching, teaching, training are really good for video content.
We'll dig deeper into each one of them in future "Tips."
