This wasn't just about the statistics but about what we saw with our own eyes, in our own children. Root to Rise was started by two parents who recognized that the school system was not equipped to personalize learning in a way that would allow their own children to thrive. And we were not alone. Many parents in the community had their own reasons for wanting to place their children in a microschool, yet a common thread ran through all of them: we wanted our children to learn- not assimilate. This wasn't about teaching children to be compliant but about teaching them to think critically and to believe they could achieve anything they set their minds to.

While long-term studies may be limited, research on the benefits of small class sizes for children is not. We truly believe that children deserve to feel as passionate about school as they do about fun. We also believe that a community-centered education (one that allows children to dream beyond what the current school system offers) is not only possible, but essential!

Many of us parents are learning to heal. From the rushed mornings to the constant need to be productive. At Root to Rise we believe that healing comes from honoring connection to our bodies, knowing when to slow down and heal. Because while we sometimes have due dates, we also have grace and humanity.
