Staffing employment grew during the week of August 17 – August 23, with the ASA Staffing Index rising by 1.7% to a rounded value of 95, a new high for 2026. Staffing jobs were 6.5% higher than during the same week in 2025, up from the 5.5% gain recorded the previous week.

Temporary and contract staffing employment has now seen year-to-year growth in 50 out of the past 51 straight weeks.

Wage growth has lagged behind inflation, suggesting that workers will continue to face losses in their purchasing power amidst elevated costs of living. Although there has been a drop in unemployment, this has come mostly from people exiting the workforce, as opposed to people finding new jobs. For the time-being, workers and job seekers will continue to face challenges in the economy.
