I’m talking business right now but y’all know this can apply to much more in our lives.
My first consulting gig was in 2009.
And even though it was working for my dad (AKA president of my fan club),
Starting a college recruitment program for his IT company,
I was scared to death 😱
Why???
Sure it was my daddy,
Someone I’ve known my entire life,
Who was well aware of my skills and capabilities.
But I was still afraid that I didn’t have what it took and that somehow I’d be proven a fraud.
Even worse, I was afraid to charge what I knew my expertise was worth.
Sound familiar to anyone? That imposter syndrome can be something else!
Luckily I had some cheerleaders in my corner who told me what was what (“Girl, you betta charge what you’re worth!”) and then sent me on my way to do my thing.
The result, I killed it! Over the next 5 years I expanded my role in the company, gained so many more skills I’m still leveraging today, and was compensated fairly.
But, wait. There’s more...
I gained the confidence I needed to set my bar high and expect those that are serious about meeting it to come correct.
And let me be clear.
Even now I have to remind myself when that fear, questioning or tendency to want to play-it-safe
sets in...
That we aren’t playing that game today.
I just snap back with a quick, “Get thee behind me Satan” 😝
and keep it moving.
So set your bar.
Watch who’s brave enough to come correct.
And know, I’m over here shouting and cheering you on.
Now go do your thang!
