August is a natural turning point for cool-season lawns. 🌿 As temperatures peak, cool-season grasses shift into a protective mode, which can slow growth and change how your lawn looks. This is completely normal and part of how these grasses survive the summer. The best thing you can do is keep up with watering and your professional lawn care program so your turf comes roaring back this fall.

☀️ Hot and dry weather can be tough on your lawn, but don’t worry your lawn is built to recover. During extended periods of heat and drought, cool season grasses naturally slow down and may even go dormant to conserve energy. While watering is the biggest factor in maintaining a green lawn, our fertilizer applications are still working for you. The nutrients we’ve applied are sitting in the soil, ready to be absorbed. As soon as temperatures cool and we receive consistent rainfall, your lawn can quickly wake up and take advantage of those nutrients leading to a faster, healthier recovery.

💧 To give your lawn the best chance of staying green:
• Water deeply 2–3 times per week instead of a little every day.
• Water early in the morning to reduce evaporation.
• Aim for about 1 inch of water per week, including rainfall.

Pro Tip: Place an empty tuna can (or similar container) on your lawn while your sprinkler is running. Once it collects about 1 inch of water, you’ve applied the right amount. Even if your lawn isn’t as green as you’d like today, don’t assume the fertilizer isn’t working. It’s doing exactly what it’s supposed to do providing the nutrients your lawn needs so it’s ready to bounce back as soon as Mother Nature cooperates.

☀️ Extreme Heat Schedule Update ☀️

Due to the extreme heat, we will be pausing lawn applications for the next couple of days. Applying products during these conditions could cause unnecessary stress or damage to lawns, and protecting your lawn is always our priority.

We’ll use this time to complete some much-needed servicing and maintenance on our equipment so we’re ready to get back out as soon as conditions improve.

☀️ Current Heat Wave? Here’s How to Help Your Lawn! 🌱

With the current hot weather across Southern Maine, it’s normal for lawns to show signs of heat stress. Here are a few simple tips to help your lawn through the heat:

•Water regularly if possible. Deep watering is much better than light, frequent watering.

•Mow high! Keep your mower set between 3.5–4 inches. Taller grass shades the soil, retains moisture, and helps protect the roots.

•Avoid mowing during the hottest part of the day. If possible, mow in the morning or evening when your lawn is under less stress.

•Don’t be surprised if you start seeing more crabgrass and other warm-season weeds. Hot weather creates ideal conditions for these weeds to emerge. We’ll continue treating them when conditions are safe, because our priority is controlling weeds without causing unnecessary stress or damage to your lawn.

•When we work together, we set your lawn up for success. Heat stress is inevitable during periods like this, but with proper watering, mowing, and the professional fertilizer and nutrients we apply throughout the season, your lawn will be in the best position to recover quickly once temperatures cool down and Mother Nature brings us some rain.
